What I would give for this defence in their prime:
Coleman Jagielka Lescott Baines

Been good defender but it’s time to go. Unfortunately, we have only one centre back, Holgate, who I’d keep. Grim. When you look at how bad our squad is, it’s worrying.
I think you shouldn't conflate footballing ability with aptitude regarding handling EITC demands. The latter is, to me, of greater import. Everton is a loving, nurturing, family club. Our work in local orphanages and with L4's LGBT community commands higher priority than kicking a football round on a Saturday arvo. And, Capt Jags thrives in such community work: his Blue Santa role is a quintessential one in Everton's feted Blue Chrimbo festivities. His yo ho ho demeanour and his interaction with all our other lion-hearted lads, all decked out in elf, pixie and fairy outfits, is irreplaceable.holgate has been approximately 9 billion times better than this polish cart
Looks like Pennington is staying. So there’s that.

The problem is we’ve let them age rather than replacing one a season we now at the stage where our whole defence bar Coleman needs selling.
However when you give new three year deals to the likes of Pennington you know the club still hasn’t realised and still has no idea what they’re doing
It won’t be long id say one more season until Coleman needs to be replaced also
He has been a loyal servant to the club and never hidden. He's better than a lot of players who are younger. It is certainly not his fault that at 35 he is still the first choice call at CB. Rather him than Keane /Williams or Mori ....it's an indictment of the club not the player that he is still relied on so heavily. I agree ....should only be an option off the bench or should move on for more playing opportunities....but I never would doubt his loyalty or commitment to the cause.
To be fair finishing 8th with Jagielka as a mainstay of the defence is a remarkable record - he's telling the truth!http://www.evertonfc.com/news/2018/05/13/player-reaction
“(Finishing eighth) is a positive. At one point it was looking a bit hairy but we managed to turn it around. Eighth from where we were is not the worst position to finish in."
Get out, Jags. That’s exactly the attitude we need to rid this club of. It’s no wonder we haven’t won anything for years. You’d NEVER see a Liverpool captain come out with that.
Desperately trying to find some way to spin this season as a good thing.
Utter disgrace.
