He frustrates the life out of me. Enormous talent. But only when he can be arsed to get involved in a match. Wasted the last few years of his career being half arsed for Wenger.

So much focus on the picture, ignoring the fact that Ozil just wasn't German enough for them. Shame. Thought he was just fine in the WC 2018 for Germany (meaning just as shameful as the rest of them.)

He wasn't even that bad. Müller was more ineffective. Gomez was terrible. Khedira way off the pace. Özil had some bright moments at least.

Cem Özdemir (German of Turk origin), perhaps the most recognisable member of the left-leaning Green Party and often a voice of reason, is pretty much in tune with my take on it. He criticises Özil's decision to meet & photo-op with Erdogan, while also laying into those who've been lambasting Özil for more sinister reasons. Aye, was definitely being harsh saying he was as bad as the lot of them. The entire team wasn't good enough; he was no exception. But agreed the above players were far worse.
