Now you're just being silly. At least, I hope you are.
Nope.
Now you're just being silly. At least, I hope you are.
But going by your logic if Turkey were hosting a world cup it would have been ok?Who's been treated like second class citizens? Any proof? There's no such thing in Germany. Everyone gets the same status.
Yes, he's indeed very inspiring:
Erdogan urges German Turks not to integrate with Germany
Erdogan calls Merkel a Nazi fascist
Erdogan calls on Turkish families in Europe to have five children to increase the Muslim population in the EU
President Erdogan vows to behead 'traitors' on first anniversary of failed Turkey coup
Erdogan Urges German Turks To Vote Against ‘Enemies,’ Including Angela Merkel
The above is also for @Billy Dean
So if you're a famous German national of Turkish origin and you're obviously aware of the above and the fine-balance of German/Turk relations you may be ill-advised to do a photo-op with Erdogan.
I know many German-Turks, and most support Erdogan. Polls support this too. I also know many German-Turks are good fine people who treat others well, but they're riding on a bad populist wave.
The entire world seems to be in the mood for division. I don't think we can blame internet culture, as history shows us we've been here before. Maybe it's human nature, the true progressives like myself (who fight against division) are in the minority. Our sense of fairness & logic isn't loud enough to stand out.
In the other corner you've got bad loudmouths like Hoeneß, the tabloids & hater fans stirring the pot to their taste. Also divisive.
The Özil situation shines a light in many directions...
...and now, as we enter into the heights of summer, the late developing Damo butterfly emerges from its chrysalis.the true progressives like myself (who fight against division) are in the minority. Our sense of fairness & logic isn't loud enough to stand out.
...and now, as we enter into the heights of summer, the late developing Damo butterfly emerges from its chrysalis.
The transformation is complete.

Then there's no point in engaging with your short bursts of ignorant waffle.
It would've been more understandable, of course.
As Turkey weren't hosting and as Erdogan thus wasn't posing with a thousand other footballers, what does Özil's photo-op tell you in light of those Erdogan comments I linked? Or at least, what picture does it paint in the eyes of most Germans & German-Turks?
The obvious answer is that Özil is implicitly supporting Erdogan's comments & policies.
@ilikecheese seems to think these are inspiring and fair game. What say you?
Wasn't I here first?
You said:
While there is a profound issue of Islam's influence in Germany...There may be justification for concern about Islam in Germany
For a progressive who is about uniting people (allegedly) you do have an interesting view of Islam and in your words Ozil's 'Turkishness'.
Seems to me your 'progressive' views are intolerant of people and things that are in a minority status. Those in that status should pipe down and carry on as to not upset the majority's apple cart.
It's that sort of attitude that brings about the sort of provacative comments from people like Erdogan.
Now you're just being silly. At least, I hope you are.
Like I have said before the WHOLE German squad was poor this World Cup so to make Ozil the scapegoat over a picture with a leader of a nation of his heritage tells it’s own story.
Ok so maybe the picture was ill advised but it’s just shady that this is used to single him out. But the most disturbing thing is that sponsors and the DFB abandoned him essentially throwing him to the rising far right wolves.
This should be ringing alarm bells in Germany but instead the press accuses him of whining.
With Germany’s past this seems very concerning and most definitely a regression in tolerance

What story is that?
Single him out in what way? And in what way did his sponsors & DFB abandon him? And who are these far right wolves?
You use colourful language without actually saying anything specific.
Which press? And what kind of alarm bells?
Oh that again. Yeah, I covered that old chestnut already.
It's a shutdown technique. Germans can't criticise anything because...Nazis. Cool.
I would be going, why Moomin?
