Overrated Everton Players

Was Tony Grant massively overrated when he came on the scene? I was only a teen but remember his hype and to be honest never saw anything that special... his career seemed to fizzle out too.

People had hopes for him certainly, but I don't remember him ever being that highly rated to be considered overrated.

Jose Baxter.
Jose Baxter could've been alongside Barkley in the first team today if he'd been properly motivated. I think his problems could be the subject of a whole "players that didn't quite make it" or "players who went off the rails" thread, eg. Billy Kenny, Michel Branch etc.

There's one, Michael Branch, he had high hopes at the time.

I was going to say Branch, him and Cadamatari were breaking through as I was growing up. Never worked out for either of them.

Disagree with that one mate - when we finished 4th in 2005, a good chunk of those points were down to Martyn playing very well.

Richard Wright going off injured was one of the best things that could've happened to Moyes.
Wasn't there a thread about this only a mere few months ago where people were putting Howard above Martyn as our best goalkeeper since Nev?

Now I'm all for personal opinions and what not, but Martyn in his period at the club was sublime. It may have been short, but God was it sweet.

I think people have short memories. Although let's be fair, I know Howard has been off form since the 2014 WC, but he has been good previously and has played longer than Martyn did for us. Doesn't he hold the record for clean sheets for an Everton goalie or something?

We should criticise Howard by all means, I do myself, but if we're to point out Tim's faults, we must also temper that with his good points, of which he has previously had many in an Everton shirt. I don't like criticism for the sake of it, or people jumping on player-hate bandwagons.

But I still think Martyn was the better all round keeper.
