Certainly could indicate that maybe Nev thinks he is leaving. who knows, that whole situation is getting out of hand now.

I just mean the potential impact of them leaving, not really bothered about them leaving per se, but the impact maybe damaging.

Best news I've had since yesterday.

Good luck to him like, nothing much against him, been a good servant to the club but he's not been good enough for a while and it's been excruciating to watch at times.

Not read the full thread but this sums it for me

Captained the club with immense pride and gave 100%. Can't ask much more from a player than that. Well done Phil, thanks and best of luck for the future!
I could captain the club with immense pride and would give 110% each week, I'm sorry but I expect a lot more than that from a PL player, let alone our captain.

Although I agree that he is a model professional and not brainless footballer, I still find it amazing that a player of his extremely limited skills managed to play over 500 PL games, captain our side for over 5 years and get over 50 caps for England.

Every team needs players that can take on more of the defensive responsibility to provide balance to the side. Lee Carsley wasn't a great footballer but was committed as hell and would run through a wall for us. Phil was that player for us too. His experience and positional sense allowed more skillful players in our team to do what they do best. He's been largely poor this season and last but I think his role in the team was rather unappreciated.

Also, all personal opinions aside, this is our captain leaving, maybe the manager next.

Just digest that for a minute.

Exactly Bryan. Would be want the captain of our side leaving on a sour note and under the impression that the majority of the fan base are made up? Hardly a nice good bye, is it.

Think it was time he left, He was a great captain, always spoke to blues about Everton with pride, And was a top pro. His age had caught up with him and his ability had been diminishing for a few years now, But he always gave his best, His experience and advice to the younger players will be a massive miss. And say what you like about him, But he was a good captain, A lot of the time he didn't play if we conceded we looked lost, I don't think Jagielka is a captain type either, He's very quiet for a center back, I think the role would actually be suited to Gibson, He's fiery, Has experience and is still quite young, When you watch him on the pitch he seems to be the one to try and motivate the players and get stuck in, Some people will mention about his lifestyle off of the pitch, That will change with age, And maybe even with the responsibility being a captain gives.

It's like every Christmas and Birthday rolled in to one isn't it lads? Best day ever.

The official Everton Facebook page actually makes for better reading than this today. Now that's just embarrassing.

Do you think he should have dropped himself and put himself on the transfer list?

I never wanted us to sign him, but his influence on & off the pitch has proved me to be totally wrong.

His professionalism & his winning mentality definitely helped us over the years, however he stayed on probably 12-18 months too long imo & as a result didn't do himself justice on the pitch at times during his latter days.

So I'd be lying if I said that him not getting another deal is good news imo, as I feared he'd be offered another 12 months.

Good luck Phil
