Thanks and good bye ...possibly a couple of seasons too late...but served us well and deserves a decent send off IMO.

I think the timing of the announcement is a little strange, we should be focusing on the next game against QPR and ending the season as high up the table as possible. I know Champions League may be out of reach now, but 5th place is still a possibility and we could get into Europe and attract a replacement for Neville and others.

He hasn't even made the squad the last three games, I don't think it's a huge distraction.

Moyes is a much bigger one if we need to go to that well.

He's been a very good captain for us and a thoroughly dedicated professional. He was never the most skilled player but his leadership and desire made him a good captain of our club. Unfortunately age has now caught up with him and I hope he gets himself in with another club and settles in well, and I don't think there'll be any shortage of lower league clubs wanting his signature. I like Nev and I think the Wigan game probably hurt him as much as it hurt us. You could tell it really dented his pride. That was probably the final point of realisation for him.

Thanks Phil.

I'd like to give this a Thumbs up...well put mate.

Not going to read this thread as I suspect there will be some ridicious content.

However for the record he is / was our Club captain and a fantastic ambassador for Everton both on and off the field

Thanks Skip, you will be missed xoxo

Although I agree that he is a model professional and not brainless footballer, I still find it amazing that a player of his extremely limited skills managed to play over 500 PL games, captain our side for over 5 years and get over 50 caps for England.

Also, all personal opinions aside, this is our captain leaving, maybe the manager next.

Just digest that for a minute.

Certainly could indicate that maybe Nev thinks he is leaving. who knows, that whole situation is getting out of hand now.
