League finishes over the last 10 years:

2003/04 - 39
2004/05 - 61
2005/06 - 50
2006/07 - 58
2007/08 - 65
2008/09 - 63
2009/10 - 61
2010/11 - 54
2011/12 - 56
2012/13 - 63

Our highest points total in the last ten years came in 2007/08, when we also progressed the furthest in European competition during that ten years, the last 16 of the UEFA Cup.

There's no evidence to support the idea that European competition hurts our league performance, if anything the record suggests our position in the league is improved by competing in Europe.

The only time when competing in Europe really hurt our league position was when we finished 4th, funnily enough....

Now there's statistics and there's statistics. I'd give anything to see the club do well in Europe but maybe I'm too pre-occupied in thinking what Martinez could do with another full season to concentrate on the league.

We've got a small squad and zero cash so too many games and long Euro trips may well hurt us. That's all I'm saying

...I was talking to a rs about this over a pint on Saturday. He's convinced that Europa is a real negative and when I said it was a possibility for us both he wouldn't entertain the thought. I thought we did ok in the league when we were in it so I'd be up for it if we don't get top4.

I reckon it would be a good thing tbh, when you look at the likes of Spurs and Liverpool it gave them a chance to give youngsters or fringe players opportunity to get game time. We could start giving matches to Stones, Naismith, Jelavic, etc. certainly in the group stage.

I love watching Everton, and if being in Europe means I can do it more often then I'd defo want us to be in it. Also, it means we get to see more of the players in the squad we don't see as often.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Europa League, but think of it this way - all it means is that we ditch the utterly pointless League Cup to free up the schedule and we get a good few days out on it. AND it boosts the club profile and appeal to players somewhat.

I'd rather be in it than finish 7th and not qualify.

I loved the Europa league when we were in it, although it is complete gash when we're not. Fiorentina was epic (bar the pens). So although it would be no champions league I'd happily accept a place

Not sure what you mean

I want to go to some abroad and watch Everton play, I would be all for this.

Play the kids in the 2nd round, get out of it as fast as we can. Takes a potential seven first game teams out of next season's schedule so that the Europa League campaign doesn't wear us out as much.

You go in a round later if you are in Europe.

Hey fair enough I guess. As Jock says though should all hopefully be irrelevant!
