What are your thoughts?

If, after a valiant attempt for the title, we have a late collapse and finish 5th or 6th and get into the Europa - whilst it would obviously cap a fairly successful season, am I alone in worrying that, for our squad and financial limitations, it could lead to us really struggling next season in the Premier League?

Obviously in life you have to just take what comes and nobody is going to turn it down, but it just gets you thinking that the margin between the Champions League places and the cash and PR and ending up in a Europa League group with three anonymous teams from Eastern Europe is massive.

when does winning the Europa get you a champions league place?.

It would require us to strengthen all areas of the team, Europa league is no easy feat but I would be happy if we qualified. Nobody expected it at the start of the season so we should be happy.

I think our squad could cope with the demand but I understand how hard it would be to shake off the jet lag from the north of Russia.

I saw us win the Cup winners mate so i can honestly say to see us win the eufa would be a proud proud moment to be an evertonian, and also guarantee CL footy the next season, for those reasons alone if we get in any form of europe i would happy

Plus i live in Russia now, so the chance to get to see us play vs a Russian team would be sweet, and hey may even get to show a few around Russia from here if they came over

What ya do is jack off the league cup at the first opportunity, play a strong team the first two games off the group, or first knock out leg, vs the gash and then get the young players/backups a game, overall the game time on the starters shouldnt be masisbvely uincreased unless you get the later rounds then it becomes hard like as you want a full team out every game

I'd rather we were in Europe than not, preferably CL but if it's Europa then that's fine with me. I loved watching us in Europe a few seasons back against random teams, I didn't enjoy the Benfica games so much though.

But yeah, European competition of some form would be great.

Remember that fiorentina game at goodison mate, thats why anyone who says no is daft imo, you cant buy nights like that, an amazing atmosphere at goodsion it was

We have only one European trophy to our name. Don't know about you guys, but I'd quite like some more. :P And as they say - you gotta be in it to win it. Would obviously prefer champs league like.

We need the money Europe brings. Even the lesser Europa league money will help. And the European trips away are great craic so I say an unresounding YES to the Europa league.

Would rather it was Barcelona away than Bruge though ;)

Id rather get Europa than nothing at all.. if anything, at-least for the away trips! watch Nuremberg away again and you'll see what I mean.

But for pure footballing reasons Id rather avoid it, We would end up like Swansea. Fatigued and struggling with consistency.. would need serious depth. Nobody really wants to see us put a Hibbert at CB out against Benfica to lose 5-0

Exactly, what a night that was, shame about the result.

League finishes over the last 10 years:

2003/04 - 39
2004/05 - 61
2005/06 - 50
2006/07 - 58
2007/08 - 65
2008/09 - 63
2009/10 - 61
2010/11 - 54
2011/12 - 56
2012/13 - 63

Our highest points total in the last ten years came in 2007/08, when we also progressed the furthest in European competition during that ten years, the last 16 of the UEFA Cup.

There's no evidence to support the idea that European competition hurts our league performance, if anything the record suggests our position in the league is improved by competing in Europe.

The only time when competing in Europe really hurt our league position was when we finished 4th, funnily enough....
