This, below, is the correct answer

He's not the first player to have a bad season after going to a major championship.

It's easy for strikers to kid themselves they contribute when they run their bullocks off, close down, challenge for every header and all that. With a man like Moyes you probably even get praise for it.

After 80odd minutes of running yourself into the ground closing a back four down on your own, when you need to get a yard on a defender to get in, or even just a solid connection on a shot it's less like to happen the more fatigue you suffer from. It's an undeniable fact that fatigue affects motor function. This is having an effect in a season where he's had less rest than half our side. If Moyes genuinely feels he's our main man he should tell him to play only in the box and focus on scoring.

The fact is your striker should always be your main goal threat unless you have an exceptional talent like Bale,Ronaldo etc. behind them. Moyes has never made our strikers our main goal threat. We've never had a player capable of excusing that either. Cahill, Felli and anybody else who's played no.10 are 10-12 goal players on average.

I'd prefer us to change our approach before we change the player.

His running offside is annoying me to be honest, he does it all the time now which need to stop. He also need to stop playing on the wings as well.
When he first came he would be shouting at his players now he does none of this either. This is not all his fault tho as other players such as Pienaar, Baines also need to find him in the box where he best at.

The offside thing; all the best strikers play on the shoulder of the last defender, its a gamble they take, especially when you don't have blistering pace. Inzaghi was the most caught offside player in Italy and his record was quite good

There's is absolutely no way Moyes or any other manager would sell Jelavic in the summer unless someone made a ridiculous bid.

How many times have we said 'there's no way...' where strikers and Moyes are concerned? He never fails to act if he thinks he can use a profit on a player better elsewhere.

Having paid £5M I think we could demand a little more for a player who had a big initial impact in the PL and continues to work hard and get in positions to score.

I'd like to think so but we're hardly in the position to haggle, are we. Kenwright will sell him for £4m and Megson will get £0.6m and will bring in Jonathan Stead as a replacement.

He's a genuine goalscorer. You don't find many of them cheap. He's having a bad season. No coincidence that our main supply routes Pienaar and Mirallas are also having bad seasons or are constantly injured.

Last three season club stats on Jelavic (shots on goals per game resulting in goals):

2012/13 69 shots in 26 games and 7 goals

2011/12 113 shots in 35 games and 27 goals

2010/11 65 shots in 28 games and 21 goals

This season he's about average in his shots on goal compared to other recent seasons but not converting. Ok there's a difference between defences and GKs in the Austrian Bundesliga/SPL and the PL, but those figures suggest he's at least in position and not doing the job this season.
