Nikica Jelavic

Last three season club stats on Jelavic (shots on goals per game resulting in goals):

2012/13 69 shots in 26 games and 7 goals

2011/12 113 shots in 35 games and 27 goals

2010/11 65 shots in 28 games and 21 goals

This season he's about average in his shots on goal compared to other recent seasons but not converting. Ok there's a difference between defences and GKs in the Austrian Bundesliga/SPL and the PL, but those figures suggest he's at least in position and not doing the job this season.

Not denying he's been stinking all season. There were a few Jocks come on saying he was a bit lazy and selfish before he came to us. Now you'd say he's the opposite IMO. It's affecting his game.

I don't put much faith in stats TBH but I've seen enough to know he's a class player and a good finisher, whatever happens this season.

Moyes always lets players play themsleves back into form. Admirable how loyal he is to some of them, but IMO when a players badly off it, as Jelavic has been at times, it's better to get them out the firing line for a bit.

That was weird...

On the subject of Jelavic I honestly think that Fellaini being upfront has hindered him. Hoofing it up to Felli hasn't helped Jelavic in any sort of way, he's the sort of player that wants it at his feet. Backed up by the fact that only two of his Everton goals have been with his head (United and Southampton).

Also with Felli up front it breaks up the great CM pairing that worked up so well last season of Felli and Gibson. Felli was the ball winner and Gibson would lay it off to the creative players and sit deep so Felli could join in with the attacks.

I know were 6th in the league. but honestly, if Moyes was any sort of tactician this season could've been so much more.

Fantastic analysis mate and spot on. You'll get the....where would we be without Fellainis goals shoals though..., in answer to that who knows top 4 maybe with Jelavic on 15 goals and Mirallas on 8. Who know.

Moyes has had the squad this season to chop and change formations. He's used Fellaini as the target man all season. Which has seen all kinds of silly draws.

I agree about Fellaini. I tried to go back and look at all of our goals this season, and there are a few that wouldn't have happened without Fellaini pushing as high as he was, but he has also started a lot of the possession that lead to goals from deeper in the midfield. His threat on set pieces isn't changed whether he sits deeper or higher either.

I like him at CM with Gibson with either Osman (or Naismith in a pinch) behind Jelavic or Anichebe along side him.

The focus needs to return to creating chances for Jelavic through Baines/Pienaar or Coleman/Mirallas and let Fellaini find the game from the midfield as he did before.

Yeah i wanted it to stop ages ago cos it just doesnt suit us and fellaini is having to many average games in this role. His calmness and size is needed in the midield.

Brilliant analysis, would you be bothered if he left ? Moyes that is..

I think he is tactically inept and is terrible at using his subs !

You also have to say though he's missed more than a few sitters and been offside a stupid amount of times. It was working perfectly last season for the last few months with Jelly and felli up top.

Agreed. People don't think about the goals that Jelavic or others might of scored if Fellaini hadn't been used as a target man all season. We've become predictable, teams know if you stop Fellaini you've stopped Moyes' one and only plan. I'm not saying never use him as a AM because it has worked at times this season (United at home) but if Moyes mixes up his tactics he makes Everton harder to defend against.

Don't know if I'd be bothered if Moyes left mate. He's a safe pair of hands and because of that he's never going to get us relegated. However, his limitations mean we're very unlikely to progress or win anything under him. It's just whether you'd want to take a risk on a young manager like Martinez that could freshen the team up a bit.

I dont buy the 'Jelavic is stifled by a target man' stuff.. Replace the name Fellaini with Cahiil and that's how we rolled last season. It's not having a target man alongside him that's hindering him (though perhaps where Cahill got a flick on and released straight away, Felli controls and holds on a bit more and Jelavic's 'moment' has gone).

Bottom line though is he IS fluffing chances.
