Nikica Jelavic

I dont buy the standard of league shout with. Jelavic. Hes proved he can do ut here.

he was doing the same move last season tho, get in the box, step back create space and shoot. defenders simply play the high line as they know he has no pace or stick close to him. He is easy to defend against.

With all respect his goal record at Rangers accounts for nothing because of the standard of football up there.

I firmly believe he peaked in those first 5 months, that's fine because it was always going to be highly improbable he'd maintain that level of form. It's just worrying what we're left with at the moment, I'm not buying all this "working the channels" nonsense. It's as simple as he's playing badly and looks shot for confidence.

How is it nonsense, that is what he is doing. Even his chance against Oldham came after picking the ball up on the left.

I don't think you can play the way he did when he first arrived and it be some sort of fluke.

I think it's a mix of confidence and adapting to a higher defensive workload that's done him in. But that said, I've never played professional football or played for Everton, so I'm not in a position to have a definitive viewpoint on this subject, so a contrary opinion may be correct.

I think he looks gash and has done all season bar the odd game (which is given considering the amount of games he has had). Don't know how long we can give him to come right because he is costing us points.

If he started slotting again in similar fashion to what he was this time last year it would have a huge impact in how we finish in the league and do in the cups, just praying for the lad to hit a bit of form.

Well, he should be costing us points, but let's be honest it's not like we have a squad of superstar strikers waiting in the wings.

For Anichebe to shove him aside lately tells you all you need to know like.

Like Tipp just said, we just have to keep praying for him to come good as he looked like a top, top striker before last summer where, coincidentally I'm sure, he had a Moyes pre-season behind him.

But look at every centre forward in the league. How many of them stay static through the middle? It's inevitable you move around the pitch to find yourself space.

I think it's a pretty poor excuse for why someone's playing badly. I'm not saying his first few months were a fluke but football's littered with players who go through a hot patch. The likes of Amir Zaki and Santa Cruz are names that spring to mind.

This 'working the channels' stuff is bollocks. Every single forward in the world does it.

You can't stand on the penalty spot waiting for the ball to be delivered precisely at your feet.

I agree, but not all forwards drift out wide every attack, which is what strikers at Everton do. Van Persie doesn't (Rooney does the running), neither does Aguero, Ba etc. and it's no coincidence that those players score goals.

I think you have to say sometimes that you have a striker, and his main job is to score goals. Everything else is secondary. That hasn't been the case at Everton over the last decade in the main.

I'm not calling for Jelavic to be allowed to goal hang, but I don't think he should be told to be the target man, the first line of defence and a poacher at the same time.

Why can't we have Anichebe or Naismith play the free role defensively off the striker and play Jelavic as a goalscorer, with Mirallas supporting from an inside forward role? Genuine question.

Aguero doesn't? He does it more than anyone in the league. And how many times does Van Persie cut in from the right and shoot? I agree with the rest of what you're saying, though. Get Jelavic to worry about scoring goals before anything else.
