If we let Nkounkou go on loan then surely this should have been communicated to Thierry Small before be went in search of a backup role?
Small wouldn't have been played either. The backup needs to be a player the manager will actually use.

As shown last year, it will probably be Godfrey again.

I don't know why so many people are having an issue with this, its a really clever move and good player management. He is too unpredictable defensively to take a risk in the premiership, yet he won't see that or think that..so if he stays and sees Delph, or Godfery taking his place then he is going to get pissed off and seek an exit and we loose another outstanding young talent.

This way we use someone else to bed him in, in a league where he can develop and build his confidence, rather than putting him into a situation where he will fail, because defensively he is miles off the first team.

I hate Delph as much as anyone but we are paying the judas £80K a week, about the time he started to do something for it....

There must surely be someone coming in. Godfrey is a right footed CB who is part of the preferred CB partnership of most. Delph is left footed but injury prone and a CM. Townsend left footed but we need him in attack to give us some variation. The 2 players who have played LB in u23s are Anderson a CB and John a right footed converted winger. LB might actually be a bigger problem than RB now. Hopefully Digne stays fit.

Sadly I think it's Delph or Godfrey shoved at lb if Lucas gets crocked mate.

Hoping we get AMN from the gooners but he ain't a lb is he?

Makes zero sense to me, and seems Benitez is the same as Carlo with not trusting the young fellas.

I don't get why we cannot use the younger players more often, rotate them in for the odd league games, now and again, to give the first 11 more recovery time.

There is supposed to be so much data on the players health knocking about, with all the stats, but yet we flog ours, never drop them or rush them back from injury!

Hope you're doing ok treatment/health-wise as well btw?

Not every young player is ready to play Premiership football...most never will.

Think the benches for Huddersfield and Brighton prove benitez isn't interested in younger players and in some ways cannot blame him he's not here for the next 4/5 years his is a 18month 2 year at best project
The club should be looking beyond that but we don't really do planning or having a strategy going forward playing wise

I understand that, and have seen plenty who you just know wont cut it.

Some never even get the opportunity to show that they arent good enough though, which is where I have a problem.

From what I saw of Niels he could do a job for us, and didn't look out of place when he got the limited minutes he did get.

He had to be a better back up than Delph or Godfrey at lb.

he should have far more games under his belt for us than he does
He should, but he won’t get any more this season. The manager will always look at picking the more experienced players. He’ll get tiny little bits here and there. Until the manager has a player that he feels he can trust it’s pointless having them on the bench. I think it will be far better for him and for us as a club for him to go and get a real experience in competitive professional football.
