New Everton Stadium - Hill Dickinson Stadium

But again I cant see any correlation between success and ground atmosphere/full capacity/steep stands.

Its like Left and Right wing politics this stadium issue- both sides arguing the toss based on set beliefs.

Which begs the question, which side should the club "side" with?

The people that want 65k under ANY circumstances
or
The people that can see why a 65k might not be "possible"

Supporters who refuse to be dumbed down and have their expectations lowered about being fans of one of the biggest clubs in football. There's been an almighty struggle between them and the series of rogues, phoneys and carpet baggers who've slithered in and out of that Everton boardroom for the last three decades.
It's all opinions Dave I suppose.

I think the majority of the fans would be happy with a 55k stadium with the possiblity to expand.

Myself personally thats all I want, I dont care for having a bigger ground than West Ham but I do care about short term thinking and assuming we'll always be below the top 6 for the next 100+ years alongside your Newcastles and West Hams of this world - which is what we would be doing going for a 50-52k imo.

Until it is officially published that the capacity will be 50-52k it is only speculation.
Nowhere have I read or even intimated that the figure would be 50-52k but some are making out this is some sort of hard fact.
I'd be very surprised if it was that "low" if only for business reasons.I think it will be more like 57-58 k but lets wait and see eh.

I get the feeling that some want a reduced capacity simply to be able to criticise and moan..

Hard not to reach that conclusion when they are complaining and criticising about something that has not been disclosed yet about from a few tweets from Dan Meis which may or may not have any relevance.

If it's 55K, that's fine, but they better figure out a way to drive revenue from pre and post game with pubs and viewing areas for watching games and other amenities. The idea of always packed and amazing atmosphere is great in theory, but limiting capacity and having revenue driven strictly through increased ticket sales in the future due to limited capacity stinks. Rather have it bigger, have tickets priced aggressively, and take in revenue from other streams.

Still don't get why people are settling for less than 60,000 when other "big" clubs are showing the way with 60,000 plus or aspiring for 60,000 plus. If we want to reestablish ourselves as an elite club obviously we have to make strides on the pitch as well as off the pitch which I thought this Moshiri era was supposed to herald. It's not gone that way yet certainly on the pitch but you can't fault the effort we spent well just not in the right way! That includes the managers.

So off the pitch they give you hope of an ambitious project with the language used and the 'Key Principles' and surveys etc but lately there's a very clear mantra from people to quash the 'ambition' of a 60K plus capacity or 61,878 etc. In fact it's more telling us it'll be nearer 50K than 60K. The club is probably driving down the ambition in terms of capacity presumably because they don't think we'd fill it. There's a fair few of our fans thinking the same and are happy to go with a 50K stadium up to say 55,000. We'd be below a host of clubs. Some ambition.

I would be gutted if we don't build a big stadium on a par with say Tottenham. People still question if we would fill it, why wouldn't we fill it? Why would we be the only big club that doesn't get big crowds in a big new stadium and have lots of empty seats? We get full houses now with an old stadium with restricted views in a very very poor season and has been poor for a few seasons with no success in 20 plus years. Gee just imagine a "state of the art" stadium on the banks of the Royal Blue Mersey and a successful team....But we won't fill our stadium so build it small. Small-time mentality! If only Neville Southall was our CEO!

Yep, you're spot on mate. There is a concerted campaign to lower expectations.

The capacity of the stadium matters. Every single club who we want to be competing with in this league are building, or aiming to build, a stadium in the excess of 60,000. It won’t be ace if it is below that, it will be a clear indication that the board don’t think we belong in that bracket.

The voice of reason, at last.

Spot on.
