New Everton Stadium - Hill Dickinson Stadium

Of course it is an extreme case, but had they kept rising up the leagues they would have probably filled it. My point is the ambition has to be there, we are not going to build a 120k stadium which is the equivalent of what they have done. But if finances are taken away from the equation we can and should be looking at 60 to 65k. If we can't afford that then so be it, I just hate to think they are having conversations to whether we can get 50 or so thousand week in week out, because if they are then it proves we have people running the club who do not deserve to be as they don't understand the size of this club.
As you say hopefully it’s finance and not lack of ambition that will determine capacity

For me the main problem is not necessarily the actual size of the stadium but the way the information has been handled.
To a certain degree the club have made a rod for their own backs by allowing descriptions such as iconic and other superlatives to be bandied around without setting a limit to the capacity early doors. Stadiums are generally judged by their capacity first and foremost so this typically foggy approach allowed supporters expectations to be raised in this regard.
The way the true capacity limits were finally put out in the open via Elstone during an informal breakfast gathering was rank amateurishness. I can't help feeling that they looked at the results of their fan survey and panicked.
They should surely have waited until they had detailed plans to release. This debate would still have taken place but it would have been offset by discussion around other aspects of the proposed ground.
On the subject of Meiss , I have disagreed with davek in the past about his involvement on Twitter but today's shenanigans have proved me wrong. While he has been hung out to dry somewhat by the clubs mishandling of the information, there is no way a rich American shed builder should be sneering at match going Evertonians , it just adds poison to the waters.
In the end the club owners have succeeded in dividing its supporters once again, well done.

The problem is the happy clappers and the board/elstone will limit this club for generations.

Its alright for the selfish so and so's who already have season tickets/armchair fans, but what for those thousands of fans and the future generations who may not ever get such opportunites as we have gone down the cheap road of a 50k?

The irony of this post is incredible. Dan Meis or whatever his name is is being jibbed for dissing Blues yet you’re in black and white labellingEverton fans ‘happy clappers’ and calling season ticket holders ‘selfish ‘? Strange post.
I can recall very, very few games where people who wanted a ticket couldn’t get in over the last 40-odd years, and that’s with barely 40,000 of which several thousand are obstructed views.

The capacity of the stadium matters. Every single club who we want to be competing with in this league are building, or aiming to build, a stadium in the excess of 60,000. It won’t be ace if it is below that, it will be a clear indication that the board don’t think we belong in that bracket.

It will be ace even if it is 50k, the location sees to that and the fact we get facilities that start to match what other grounds have had for 25 years or more. Your second point I agree and will explain further below.

Its like saying every other team in the league doesnt aspire to be as "good" as United, simply cos Old Trafford dwarves every stadium in the country.

That's missing the point. There can be a happy medium with what you build to meet current and future demand. If we did build a 50k stadium out of the teams that have moved to new premises we would have had the smallest increase in capacity between old and new. Is that worthy of Everton? Or live up to our motto? It doesn't even touch the fact that we had one of the largest stadiums in the country up to a few decades ago. If they give existing season ticket holders the opportunity to buy extra tickets and with the extra premium/hospitality seats it could be possible that there may be only a few thousand extra available seats over what we have at Goodison. It would smack of a lack of ambition and freeze fans that want to go to the match but can't now and will still struggle once we move. It also gives the club the excuse to put up prices when demand is greater than what can be supplied. As i have always said if we can only afford a 50/55k stadium then that will have to do. There should be no other reason like will we fill it (as long as it is sensible <65k) as all metrics point that we can, at least for the most part.

If we get a (considerably) smaller stadium than spurs/arsenal/liverpool/city and on a par with Newcastle and who knows a Wolves/Villa in the future then it is just another reason for people to put us out of the bracket of the top clubs. If you look at any of larger stadiums on Wikipedia it will say x biggest in the country, like it or not it is a source of pride and stature.

There is constant disagreements on this thread to what we could fill, due to conditioning of fans minds what we are/were as a football club. Perfect for our board to have an easy way out.

Personally I think it will be 55k minimum which is acceptable to most, but 58-60k is where it is at.

Having been to most of the ‘modern, 55,000+ stadiums I can honestly say I’ve found very few of them great for atmosphere or that have a real Football feel. That would be my concern with anything above 55-57,000.
Imagine the noise from booing and scapegoating in a 65,000 seater

Well I currently think it will be 52k.

Which isnt ideal, but it will just have to do I suppose.

It doesnt mean the club has no ambition, no ambition would be to stick a stand on a very old stadium and charge fans 70 notes a game till they kicked off abar it.

FWIW I found Meis's response's pretty much the same as many replies on this forum.
But then again I wish he'd just keep his trap shut as some will jump on anything he says.

Goodison hasnt had a great atmosphere for a while mate. Good atmospheres in English football are long gone regardless of the size and design of the stadium. (Apart from the daft Palace ultras)

This is not true
It is what we call a complex equivalence
Two different factors added together to make an incorrect logical result
There is no relationship between the capacity of the stadium and the boards appetite for success
NONE
This absolutely. Can't for the life of me see any correlation between success and ground capacity, just doesn't make any sense.

I think it will be nearer 57-58 k meself like.

Interesting all the differing fans views , as fans we all know better....right.
Not long ago the same "fanbase" voted for a 50 k seat flatpack stadium in Kirkby.
Think I would have stopped going years ago if that move had happened.
But again fans are always right eh.

I think 50-55k will be fine as long as its future proof and can be expanded later on. Needs to be iconic with the location, a half arsed stadium in such a great location would be a waste of money and make us look small time. It's taking us long enough to get to this stage so would rather they take a bit longer and get it right than rush it and we drop the ball.
