Not really that similar though is it:

Aimless, that summarizes them both to me. why the chevron-like image at the bottom of the shield? what does it do for the club's image? I'm sure the star and crescent are meaningful to Portsmouth, but all they did was stick them on a shield. Fine enough, but why so for Everton?
Obviously the shield is non-negotiable. There's nothing like it in the PL and it is distinctively our logo. I've seen some nice circular designs and ones without a border at all, but I honestly dont see an Everton badge in that way.
Looking through the vaults, this one a few months back from Tubey looks spot on for me. It'd be preferred to the three that's come out of this wild goose chase in a straw poll, I'm convinced of it.

It's essentially the old one with the massive name taken off and formation date enclosed into the shield instead of either side of it. To me, that's just simply classic.
Lads how do you get your customer number?
Why do the club insist on having Everton written on the crest? Everyone in football knows what an Everton badge looks like and if it's to market the club to people who might not (perhaps fans in America/ Asia) I would of thought that a nameless owl looking badge would intrigue them to want to find out more. OR SOMETHING.

It looks good if you ask me.
