Captain is just a label and an armband.

A leader on the pitch will be a leader on the pitch regardless. Does anyone really think “I would step up here, but hey, I’m not wearing the armband so I’ll just go quietly about my business in the background”?

I was looking for the poll.

Probably Seamus as he clearly cares.

Also, looking at the possible new starting 11, everybody else is new-ish and not been there 5 minutes!

The ability to shout and point is not a prerequisite of leadership. The packleader gets up and the pack follows, he doesnt need to ‘rally the troops’. Coleman would be just as quiet (and just as good) a leader as Jags.

Well said, People think having someone who screams down the ref's throat every game is a captain these days.

of course, but having the armband gives you more influence with the ref, otherwise he can just tell you to go away whilst he speaks to the 2 captains, happens every single game

big decisions ( team decisions ) always come down to the captain as well ( pens etc ) all of which jags has no authority at all, the way he took his red card on Saturday was pathetic, not one ounce of a back bone, he came out and said he won the ball after it why not make that point to the ref

Captain is very important for us. We need someone, as Rooney was briefly doing last year, to talk to referees, to pick up the players, to support the ones who make mistakes, to dictate the play if the team is either not calm or not aggressive or quick enough. Jagielka has been a great 'role model' or ' ambassador' type captain, and I'm sure he will continue to be a model in that way, but it's time for a different type of captain.
COleman is an easy logical choice, but I would even go for Pickford as a more adventurous one or Sigurdsson, though I don't know what kind of character he is when he captains Iceland
Prob with Pickford it will start to effect his positioning and concerntration throughout the game. He needs to be able to get in the refs ear. If that involves a 50yard run down the pitch to have a rant and then charge back and reset his focus. We need some in the refs while the balls in play

Jags has looked like he’s about to vomit when he’s in the tunnel at Anfield whereas Henderson reckons himself to be the heir to Bobby Moore. For those that say the caprain makes no difference which type of character would you rather be lining up behind?

Irrespective on whether Jags is still here or not he should not be captain anymore , even in his prime he was not captain material , never vocal enough , never in the refs face , doesnt have that drive and leadership to rally his teammates , there is only one man fit for the job , Coleman ...
I’m wondering how you say he isn’t vocal enough or doesn’t have drive or leadership to rally his teammates- have you seen him in training, off the field or in the dressing room? Leadership isnt all about screaming at your colleagues at times of pressue.
As for being in the refs face, no thank you - I don’t want that. We are Everton and I would hope that we go about things in a dignified manor.

Actually fair enough, I was also thinking the captain should be screaming and arguing all the time, but Coleman or some other 'Captain' should have definitely argued with the ref then quickly supported Jags and rallied around...i didn't watch in person or on highlights yet - did anyone notice anything happen like that? Someone on the pitch should have at that moment encouraged the team and in any case the team did respond well!

By the way, I'm totall out of it as i've been away - who did get the captaincy after Jags?

we always argue after the decision has been made. Any of the top six would have been hounding the ref before he'd reached for the red so that it gave him more time to think it through. Probably wouldn't have changed the decision, but over the course of the season it would help a couple of times. The way we stand back and allow refs to make the mistakes makes them think they've made the right decision so go with their intsict.

Should've been given the captaincy after his fight with that advertising hoarding when he scored against Swansea.

that advertising board had been giving him grief all night, it was nice to see him shut it up haha

was hilarious at the time, I was shouting at the tv ok seamus hes had enough leave it its not worth it haha

Loved that... just raw emotion. He'd put his foot absolutely through the ball and smashed it home - adrenaline must've had his heart going a mile a minute.
