Neville

Phil Nevile is not earning his corn on the park and should not be exempt from criticism. His play of late shows why Utd let him go. A spell on the bench may just do the trick let him know he is not an automatic pick. That said he is a good skipper and still commands respect

Hibbs should probably play against City.

Nev in front of him?

If the little spanish man is still out then maybe.

Anything to stop Fernandes playing there again. Can you imagine Chelsea playing Makelele out wide?

I agree that Phil Neville's distribution has been shocking of late and maybe a couple of games on the bench would do no harm. But the long term solution can't be Hibbert who although a decent defender is [Poor language removed] awful going forward and that won't change!

With Neville it's a poor run of form which he will come through, so he would get the nod for me every time, especially as someone mentioned he is a leader on the pitch.

By the way anyone read the Sun report on last night's game - was that [Poor language removed] idiot at the game or what, I presume he wasn't pissed cos Kevin Ratcliffe said it was £8 a pint

Welcome to the forum Jamiem and I think most would agree that neither of the two are the long term solution at right back.

I still prefer Neville to Hibbert, mainly because Neville is a leader.

What leadership? His ability to point? Great leaders, lead from the front and show example. Neville is incapeable of doing either. And as for versatility, yes thats correct, he is awful in every position he plays

though sometimes his ability lets him down, he shows how to concentrate throughout the game. that level of steadfastness is a much revered quality, and rightly so. we saw last night that lapses caused some sloppy play, and could have been punished by a better side.

He's a decent crosser, just had a poor night.

Sheff United, wigan, spurs to name a few.

Best RB at the club.

Yes.

I wanted to see Hibbert in at right back last night.

Traditionally, Neville has been thought of as a more "offensive" option from that position than Hibbert. I've always felt that Hibbert's been a better defensive player.

Since Neville really isn't giving us much offensively, I'd like to have Hibbert back there.

Neville's distribution has been awful over the past 4 or 5 matches, not just last night. Hibbert's time has come.

I agree completely Bill. However I think Moyes needed to play Phil right back last night as we needed the pushing on and crosses that he supplied(at times). He did seem awfully distracted to me, his head just wasn't in the game.
He showed up more than Fernandes did though. What was going on there!

Hibbert certainly isn't the world's best passer and is often guilty of hoofing the ball aimlessly up the field.
Yobo?

Incorrect imo. I have heard, on a few different occasions, Moyes mention in interviews how much of a leader Neville is in training, always hungry, tries to get the best out the players etc. Moyes was intimating that Neville is "his mouthpiece on the field" as it were. If he is good enough for Moyes, he's good enough for me. (y)

Against City however (having thought about it a bit more), I would put Hibbert at Right Back and Neville in the middle of a 5 man midfield, leaving Moyes with an extra midfield option (i.e. hibbert off, manny on, neville to RB?)

As a side note, I reckon Phil Neville will be a great manager when he retires from playing.

Sensible comment. Neville is worthy of a lot of respect for his effort, captaincy and being all-round nice bloke.

But he needs to develop aspects of his game and is not, I would argue, a player you would readily associate with a Champions League football side. Unfortunately for us, Everton are not yet a Champions League Football side. But we may one day soon reach that level. And if we are to reach that level, then Neville will not be an obvious candidate for playing each and every game.
