Exactly. Two incredibly difficult away games and he was part of a defence that took six points and returned two clean sheets. It would be insane to drop him and weaken the side by playing O'Brien there instead. Was great at Forest and then Villa.
Again - if he keeps himself fit & motivated then that spot in the side is now his to lose.

….i have no doubt O’Brien is the better defender so the temptation will always be there to play him over Patterson but it shouldn’t matter this weekend with Keane being unavailable.
Come on Eggs you know about football. Surely you can see that a proper RB ( even one that's not great ) gives the whole team better balance.….i have no doubt O’Brien is the better defender so the temptation will always be there to play him over Patterson but it shouldn’t matter this weekend with Keane being unavailable.

If you just want a RB to defend , sit deep and not go over the halfway line you can coach anyone to defend - see Tony Hibbert
…yep, as I’ve posted recently, I totally agree with the balance point.
Problem with Patterson is the risk of him doing something stupid, it’s what’ll be at the forefront of Moyes’ decision making although this week should be another opportunity for him.
Please, no more of the Garner at right back shouts. You want to move our currently most effective player out of the position he prefers and is having most effect at this moment in time? That way madness lies.
Even if Keane is still suspended we'll have Gueye back and that should alleviate Garner to go back to RB where he'll be a lot more of a safe choice geting forward.
We're going to have a lot more players in the opposition half against Leeds than we did against Villa, so we need a back line that's defensively up to the counter attacks.
You seem to forget that Garner has had mixed fortunes in MF even in the last few weeks. Yes he excelled against Villa but he was a bit hit and miss in other games there. Please, no more of the Garner at right back shouts. Patterson did ok in his last 2 outings. If Moyes sees fit to start him then he needs to do that again and again and again till any debate has gone.
Has he got that in him, I don't know but if the manager sees fit to include him then so be it
Just no more Garner at right back talk, that's not the solution

Yeah I think he’s done ok not sure much more than that but ok as a fullback gives us a real boost on the field compared to a centre half there , the side look so much stronger .Did OK against a very good Villa side. Was an active part in a clean sheet, so that will do for me.
Nowadays though there is more to being a Fullback than defending and OBrien looks what he is - playing out of position….i have no doubt O’Brien is the better defender
