Moyes or Unsworth???

I do wonder about this a bit you know. Sunderland were a basket case, the fact he got them to be broadly competitive was a decent effort. He kept West Ham up last year, with next to no money when they looked gone for the wind, that was a good job done. He kept Sociedad up, defeated Barca, was doing ok until they moved him on. Even United have taken 3-4 years to look like they have finally clicked post Ferguson. I am not sure he's half as bad as people make out.
lol lol lol

He never kept Sunderland competitive at all, he was laughed out of sociedad and is still referee to a la gînge nobhèad, he's widely considered as the worst Utd manger of the last 50 odd years and at West Ham he had something like a 30% win rate

He's finished as a manager now, respect what he did for us but time to move on

lollollol

The key word here is respect, hes lost it, he wouldnt be able to get the players respect.

David Moyes is old school dinosaur he can only work with grafters imagine this lot they would down tools in a flash
if you want to go back to knifes in a gunfight b0ll0cks hes your man.. mediocre appointment i'm sure we have all had enough of that
get a winner in whatever it costs

Would never want Moyes back.

Sure he saved West Ham but the decisions he made and some absurd gaffes while at Sunderland made me lose all respect for the man.

But the whole landscape has changed, theres no Artetas for 2.5m, no Cahills for 1.5m, even your John Stones cost 20m+.

Moyes bought some very good players for very little, he also bought some very bad players, his mistake punts would hurt us more and his bargain hunting wouldnt be as effective, given the market currently.

Hes a decent manager, light years ahead of EVERYBODY we appointed after him, but I dont think he would be able to do as good a job as he did.

We would certainly be harder to beat.

But I think his time is done.

I wouldn't go and get Moyes in, but if he walked back in, I wouldn't be massively disappointed. That's how I feel about the whole thing.

What you say is spot on about the bargains, but I do think ability to coach, patience, team spirit, simplicity in strategy etc was a big part in allowing for the above bargains to prove their worth. I am not sure he has lost those things entirely. A lot will depend on how he reflects on his recent jobs.

The other big thing for me is he knows the place, and nows the fans. You look at Solskiaar at United and he had a great chance because he knew the place. I think it gives him a big chance.

What I'd also say, is he probably represents the sort of manager we need currently. He will never lead anyone to championships or cups, but generally speaking he stabilises clubs quite well and makes them quite functional. We are unstable and do not utilise the assets we have currently. I think there has to be a bit of honesty about where we are at. We are a poor team and another gamble could turn out awfully. Under Moyes we don't go down and probably finish top 10. Maybe thats whats needed for 2-3 years while Brands can slowly overturn some of the awful recruitment that has gone on?

Unsworth is not a manager. Joe royle had to get to the bench twice, when DU was filling in, to give him advice.
I think the situation now is exactly the same as it was with Walker, Smith, Martinez, Koeman and Allardyce. The change has to be made because anyone would be better than the current incumbent.

Neither. But .....
I watched a stream of our U23s playing at Swansea last week , they won 1-0 and were hardly exciting , a typical Unsworth team, we defended properly. In the first half there was a corner against us on the Swansea right and they had 5 or 6 players in and around our box. All were marked closely man for man and there was the usual tugging, jostling etc going on, we were clearly playing a different system at the back from the first team . We were rarely troubled defensively.

Thereby lies Unsworth main strength, his ability to organise a defence , something he has done well over the past three seasons or so even when he’s had his defenders hooked away on loans . For me Unsworth would make an ideal Defense Coach under Silva, we may have one in title already but it’s an area in which we are clearly deficient . Let Unsworth get to work on sorting out those Set Pieces as Defence Coach , it’s the least disruptive of all options and while not guaranteed, the most likely to produce an improvement in team performance.

Was he being an old school dinosaur when he converted Arnautovic from a winger to a striker, ensuring West Ham’s survival last season? He actually brought some of the old Everton style to West Ham, when he went in they covered the least ground of any team in the league, which was far from the case by the end of the season. He also brought Rice into their team, who is now one of their very best players.

Just no to either.....

Unsworth not good enough, Moyes no longer good enough

We need three points in my opinion to be safe, season is a write off, evaluate in the summer both players and managerial team.

But this should be a Brands call, let him do his job

we’d follow the Man U solskjaer tactic so I don’t think Moyes would get a sniff, chance of Arteta with big backroom name or a big name announced to take over end of the season but secretly running the team under a coach

Shows how bad things are, I'm starting to think moyes is a good idea lol
I would imagine bringing him in would be the same as any new manager though, some players would love him, some would hate him and we can't move players on, which means we can't bring new ones in (plus transfer window is shut) biggest problem is upfront and that can't be solved till the summer, moyes would make us solid at the back if nothing else

Disgraceful, entitled blues denigrating the achievements of David Moyes in this thread.

I'll tell you this we were finished before Moyes came in. Administration was a whisker away. Our chairman told us we had nothing. There was no Sky Deals and Everton had narrowly escaped relegation in the 90s.

We'd become small time. That's right, a laughing stock. That man took us from nowhere and gave us some self respect back. Season after season with no money we managed 4th,5th 6th,7th. In my eyes he was perfect for us at that time. A time of austerity.

The way he left us was unfortunate and could've been handled better. However he'd been very loyal and respectful to us throughout his tenure. A hard Scotsman that came from Preston North End for crying out loud. Yes he won nothing. Yes his teams bottled the very big games. Yes sometimes his tactics may have been too cautious.

Could any of you have done better though with what he had. I thought as much...

He ain't right for us anymore for sure. We all move on don't we. However look at the state of us with all our money.

We are pathetic.

So show some class and don't pull him down. The fella did good and I'd shake his hand in thanks if I ever met him.

You are totally correct mate.
There are so many on here with no accurate memory.
Did wonders with absolutely pennies.
