Moyes or The Board?

Have a look at some utd forums, there already moaning how quite they have been this window, and what taking so long with the thiago transfer !!! And it might be off now, and some of there other targets have signed for other clubs........... Sound familer

i think its a bit of both..but ive read that we are a nightmare to deal with and some of that must have been due to moyes
The approx. two year period we didn't buy a single player must have been less of a nightmare for those people.

Pretty sure it wasn't "a bit of both" on that one but maybe I'm wrong. I bet BK was begging him to spend but Moyes was unrelenting in his desire to not spend anything.

"If our yearly net spend ever goes over 1m I'm off" he'd tell BK.

"Won't you please spend a bit of the board's money David ... I'm begging you! I have it all here in a giant sack. Cash!"

"NO! Get that huge pile of money out of my face!"

Bit of both for sure.

Seriously though he knew if he could be a giant prick in negotiations and get 10% extra off (or 10% extra for outgoings) that extra cash might be his only transfer kitty for the next window. So he was slow and deliberate and got the best deal he could. I'd have been the same way with this board full of super rich people with no money.

Regardless ... onwards and upwards lads. He's gone and he's trying to steal our best player. That's all I really care about to do with him right now.

Imo the ginger whopper's rightly conservative in his purchases from his experiences with medicals, and trying to drive the price down by the seller being desperate to shift as the window's about to close, but has become too dogmatic with it, and for Manure it may be a dangerous game to play, where the team needs to gel and be competitive from the off to retain the league, and saving 20mil on a couple of transfers isn't all that.

I think this thread is a bit premature given that Martinez has made just one significant signing.

During Moyes's reign I was always very skeptical at how good he was. Don't get me wrong, he has been pushing Everton above our weight - but many teams are doing that not just us.

However he always took ages to sign someone in the window, and missed out on major transfer targets. Always saying "I'm looking for the right player" yada yada.

But now he's at Manchester United, he's saying the exact same thing and they're one of the richest clubs who could probably afford anyone they want.

2 weeks in the window and Martinez has signed 4 players - they're not world beaters, but our squad is looking much better.

So was Moyes just too slow? Or was it all to do with the board not giving him money until the last few weeks - as suggested in many other threads...

You lost me at that redundant claptrap, pal.

We aren't "punching above our weight".

Every one of the teams which finished below us this season, with the exception of Liverpool and Villa, have played Championship football in this century.

So how were we "punching above our weight"?

What does that even mean in fotball terms anyway.

Under Moyes, Everton were no better than they should have been.

Didnt realise that. Good stat.

I was, and largely still am, a bit Moyes fan, but he isn't our manager any more. Martinez has brought in some new players, and hopefully they'll do well for us. None have really cost much thus far so I'll be interested to see how the rest of the window pans out, and importantly whether we lose any players before the end, either because we can't keep them or need to balance the books.

Either way, I'm looking forwad to the start of the season. I just hope fans are patient with him and give him a bit of time.

David Moyes is many things.

An infuriating, dour bellend he is.

Poor in the transfer market he is not, the ginger knows a player.

Agreed like, he does.

LOL ... I am starting to feel sorry for Naismith. Him being the punchline to every joke is making me like him more ... I want him to prove all you monsters wrong. TEAM NAISMITH! GET NAISMITH ON FFS!

No question Moyes did some good things at Everton and steadied the ship but he did not earn the nickname "dithering" for nothing. This so far in terms of so many signings so soon has to be record for Everton.

I would be interested to know if Berto is a bit tougher with Bill than moist was, but its all conjecture isn't it, a few more transfer windows with both managers at their current clubs and maybe we can have a pop

Finishing 5/6/7th wasn't punching above our weight IMO. Especially last season, that squad we have should have been finishing 6th.
