That is Hurling jazzy which our bud @Bluerover would talk about more than me. I’m watching Gaelic football today which while played to largely the same rules, it doesn’t have sticks!

In football you can use your hands to carry the ball (limited number of steps) but you still score the same way as Hurling- 3 points for a goal or 1 point for over the bar.

Trust me, it’s every bit as physical as Hurling to play.
Good luck at the Ballybofey this afternoon AT........hope y'all impressed with my research lol

You need to be nuts to play either if you ask me. lol They're madder than jockeys, most of whom also seem to be Irish strangely enough. Hmmmm. I'm seeing a connection here.

Saw the specialist today at Windsor Hospital. Got more info on where we are. Due to my 'heart failure' condition, they wont do chemo or an operation though radio therapy is an option. Under the circumstances he has given me 2 years which takes me to 88, Can't really complain - good run. Just hope that Everton aren't in the Championship when I depart.
Dear @Methuselah reading this post made my heart hurt, I'm sorry about the news. But like others have mentioned, what the doctors told you is their scenario, that doesn't mean you can't beat the odds and grace us with your company for much longer. You are a treasure to GOT, I always appreciate your stories and I hope you know we are here to support you throughout this process. Sending my regards to you and Mrs. M.

Good Sunday friends, that is until the match begins and the nerves begin rising, but I'm still going to watch and hope Everton shows some determination and keeps the beating to a minimum. Maybe we even get a miracle and get a draw ??

I have enjoyed looking at everyone's pictures and also reading how everyone's weekend has been shaping up. Mine has been a good one too, the weather has been absolutely gorgeous in Asheville so I have been trying to make the most of it. On Friday night the hubby and I went for a date and had a great evening together. Then yesterday I made the most of the beautiful day and worked on the garden, then in the afternoon went to my mum's with my daughter and visited her and my aunt who is in town for the weekend. Now having a lazy morning but I'm about to head outdoors and finish working on my garden before the match begins.

I hope everyone's Sunday continue shining ? xxx

Hello friends. Seriously bad planning. I have arrived home from Newmarket in time to watch the match. I have no alcohol or snacks. It's all looking very bleak. I've just seen sourpuss Souness being interviewed on Sky Sports. Wonder if they have found a token Evertonian to talk to or will it be Carragher, Souness, Redknapp and daughter of Daglish.

Realistically I've written this off as a loss. as long as we don't get humiliated ( bad for the goal difference), I never had needing anything out of this game in our survival plans. 3 home games - 9 points. That will do it.

This did make me laugh though. You have to otherwise you would cry!

Of course we are all sad to hear your prognosis ,this is life sadly but it seems you are at ease over it and that makes me so proud of you .No one knows when but if they give a time they see so many cases it is usually quite close ,my old mate called Fred Jones was around 83 when they gave him 3 months and they were spot on .
I do hope you don't suffer too much pain and they show the respect you deserve and I for one will be alongside you on the way .Stay strong my friend .
How is the good lady ?
blue1948, thank you for your info. Her indoors is sleeping a lot but fortunately is not in any major discomfort. Move at the end of this next week is sadly going to cause some unavoidable hassle.

I never played hurling growing up in Dublin in the 70s and 80s, but played GAA football and soccer. My school didn't play hurling until after I had left. I am living in Kilkenny since 1990 and married to a Tipp woman - having a very bad day today sadly. In KIlkenny GAA football is just not given any respect. Only a handful of clubs bother playing it.

Hurling is the fastest and greatest field game in the world - the female version is called camogie.

Yeah it's fast and very very physical but I failed to see any beauty in the game like you see in a free flowing game of football or rugby.

However it was my first time watching and I had no idea what the rules were.

Tone honest it just looked like a free for all.

Believe it or not the compulsory wearing of head protection only came in the 90s. Before that players had some terrible head injuries including loss of eyes. Google Christy Ring, one of the greatest ever Cork hurlers (more research for you). There is a documentary where his face is covered in blood but he keeps going.

Football is not as dangerous but much more physical than soccer - you don't go down unless you can't get up

I never saw hurling in the flesh until I moved to Kilkenny. It is impressive on TV but when you see it live on a pitch, it is awesome. The physicality and skills are just incredible. In Kilkenny youngsters, male and female walk around with hurleys and sliotars (the ball) as soon as they get out of the pram. I am delighted that Dublin is now performing to a good standard and I never thought I would see them hammer Kilkenny in a major final and in the Leinster Championship.
