The money is in stallions. A mare can only have one baby a year but in a year a stallions could cover hundreds of mares. You get three goes for one fee for your mare to get pregnant and if there's no foal it's no fee.

Hello all. We've had a really fun day today. The National Stud was fascinating. Saw loads of beautiful horses, foals and yearlings. Also got to see one of the stallions doing stallion things - he had four liaisons booked today. Here he is immediately afterwards, no doubt on his way for a brandy and a cigar! His name is Lope y Fernández.View attachment 163357
