Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Morning ,

Well the teflon chancer remains in office and we have to put up with this odious creature for at least another 2 years. And do you know the people in this country are so stupid that I wouldn't be surprised if they voted him in for another term.

So , what does the day hold ? First up a trip to Tesco for mum and our weekly shop , then a few hours gardening and rest before a 3 hour table tennis session tonight.

That should keep me occupied.

Have a good one.
Historically once they have to go through a no confidence vote from their own party it's the start of a slippery slope Jazz. And it was a very unconvincing win too. But we know he won't learn from this and will continue to do the same things, so it's only a mater of time I should think. Interestingly, I heard one political commentator say this morning that Johnson would probably opt for a general election rather than be shunted out by his own party, so we may not be stuck with the Tories for another 2 years after all. Now if Andy Burnham were to decide to get back into the fold I would definitely be prepared to proffer my vote again. In the meantime, at least Johnson's decision making is being influenced by his wife rather than the odious Dominic Cummings.

It was a shocking result for him though. Hopefully enough pressure can be put on him to go. I can't abide him, his policies, his attitude, his personality, any of it. How has this country been taken in by such a charlatan. And I agree. It would not surprise me if he got voted in again.
I'm sorry Anj. I know you are being serious but I just had to smile when I read that. You remind me so much of Cal when you're angry. I was thinking the same when I read your post about Klopp in the Bomb shelter thread. ;)

My mother in law after going into hospital for slight heart trouble in A&E - the NHS probably stretched somehow managed to break he hip & wrist - 6 months ago - had the hip dynamic hip replacement - it's not worked - we have been told she has 12 months to live bed bound - yet they are insisting she goes into a nursing home ?
They can't find one to accommodate her needs as she has now lost her faculties ....

It's upset my family - i just feel so sorry for her plus my wife who has the power of attorney in Health & Finance plus we are in the process of taking it to the ombudsman ... very stressful times ......

Not helped by her brother who bid 100 grand for her house which is worth £280,000 - thats why the power of attorney for the sensible person in the family is a necessity in many ways ....

You are correct to highlight the paucity of attractive alternatives in the Labour party Fred.

Starmer is clearly an intelligent and honourable man but like most lawyers ( I should know ) appears to have had a charisma bypass operation and to lack the ability to connect to the working class - "he's more Tory than a Tory " was the claim by one vox popper.

Agree with you about Burnham , I lament the loss of David Milliband too - both would make fine leaders.

I like Wes Streeting and Lisa Nandy too but think that she's a bit lightweight for the top job. Whilst I'm at it I can't stand Angela Rayner!

Labour should get back in if that lot carry on the way they are - they are all the same snouts in the trough imo ....

Agree with all of that Jazz, except I don't know who Wes Streeting is. I was rooting for Lisa Nandy at the last round, being the best of a bad bunch. Andy Burnham though would make a fantastic PM imo.

Anyone who can go on the BBC politics show and when asked "What are your hobbies " Lisa - "I'm learning to play the piano "
And then "What can you play ?" ...Lisa - " I'm not very good but I can play Top Cat " deserves my vote Fred.

Streeting is seen as rising star- currently Shadow Health Sec

Whilst I think on, I noticed you were admiring pictures of our Liz in the Fit Birds thread Jazz. Have you ever watched the Netflix series The Royals.? It's quite funny actually. Liz plays the Queen regent and Joan Collins plays her mother. The daughter (princess) is a rampant drug addict and the Kings brother is a total sleazeball who just happens to have 2 red haired wannabe important daughters. The whole family is portrayed as sex mad philandering drug crazed layabouts, apart from the morally upstanding king who is the pillar of the community. See any parallels? I think you'd enjoy it. It's been going for about 4 seasons and I don't know how I missed it until now. ;)

Good morning. Today I have to go to a conference. All morning. Entitled ' What we do and why we do it' I am not happy. Taking everybody out of the workplace for three hours to a hotel in Darlington to be talked at by senior management seems like a colossal waste of money and productivity to me. Our sister office in Liverpool are having similar tomorrow in Liverpool. So, 800 people removed from work for 3 hours. 2400 work hours lost. It also concerns me that managers appear to think we don't know what we do or why we do it, given the title. I'm assuming in their heads it is some sort of faux engagement operation that ticks a big box for them but makes little difference to anything.
It is unbelievable considering the Civil Service are supposed to be shedding 90,000 jobs and making efficiency savings.
Not to mention that I'm going to have to drive to Darlington through peak hour traffic, ( about 45 minutes) and pay to park.
Rant over. I'm hoping that one of you is a Daily Mail journalist in disguise! ??
My wife worked for a shipping company and they had many "conferences " she had a silent code with one of the guys that kept them awake almost all the time .Do not go there guys !! I said silent .

I bet you feel better now @jazzy :)

To be fair Joey, if your in law has lost most of her faculties and is also bedbound, she would be far better off in a nursing home than she would be in hospital. I'm surprised that you're having difficulties finding one to accommodate her because of her condition, because that's what they specialise in. It could be that there just aren't any spaces available at the moment. I don't know what it is like up there these days.

It's true that the quality provided by these nursing homes varies greatly. My old mum (who was in a similar condition to your in law by the sounds of it) spent her last few months at Broadway Nursing Home near Townsend Lane, which is not too far away from you IIRC. The young scouse carers there were absolutely brilliant with mum and I couldn't speak highly enough of them. That was nearly 10 years ago though and things may have changed since then.

I would always recommend that you visit any care home before agreeing to anything just so you can see the conditions for yourself, but if I were in your shoes I'd be looking to get her moved out of hospital as quickly as i could because they just aren't set up for caring. Plus hospitals are full of sick people, which may sound trite but is actually very important. Hope you get her sorted soon mate.

Just gone in to anger mode as the hospital & Social Services have found a home we have not viewed we have had two days notice from our MPs case worker who is also fuming as they have tried this six weeks ago & she stopped it ......
Utterly sole destoying behaviour we discussed this last week at a meeting - we will do our best to delay it again no cost been offered - it's disgusting......
