Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Hello lovely people.

This morning I’ve been trying to catch up to this thread and I began reading backwards just like Fred.

I want to thank you for the sweet messages of support you all posted a few days ago, I apologise for not writing back right away but I’m still overcoming the deep sadness that has over taken my spirit for days now, but the sun is shining my way and I’m trying to feel better and look at all the bright aspects of the current situation and how to improve things not only for our family but for the whole country. Next Saturday there are marches planned throughout the country against violence and for gun reform and I’m going to be there making my voice heard. Hopefully millions will come out so Congress can get a grip of the support there is to change the current situation. There has been over 230 mass shootings in this country since the beginning of this year, this can’t continue and hopefully in November we will make our voices heard about it too at the ballot.

Sofia is having her 5th grade graduation on Monday and I volunteered to set up and work on the celebration festivities. I can’t believe she will be in middle school in just a few months, she is going through a growth spurt at the moment and she is looking more like a young lady than a kid. The past couple of weeks I was resolved in finding her a therapist and I did, she has began therapy this morning and I hope having this extra form of support will help her deal with all the fears and issues that are arising as she deal with the pressure of becoming a teenager. I’m thrilled my new super expensive health insurance coverage is going to pay 100% of the appointments and there is no even a copayment so this is a huge win for our family.

This weekend the hubby is in Virginia for his uncle’s funeral, but I didn’t go because I’m still testing positive for Covid so just in case I stayed behind. Sofia is also busy with her best friend so I found myself at home all on my own, a very rare experience so I’m trying to figure out what to do with myself. The house is already sparkly clean and the garden is taken care off as well. I may just put a bikini, lay in the sun and read a book and pretend that I’m somewhere in the Caribbean or the Mediterranean lol
Glad you are feeling a bit brighter. It is so hard to understand. I'll be thinking of you next Saturday on your march. I hope it makes a difference. Enjoy your time alone. Get the bikini on, a good book and something nice to drink x

Ange, It is indeed very difficult to understand such evil towards kids. I hope so, for the good of this country and the future of my daughter and all the younger generations. I’m definitely making the most of my time alone. I’ve been absorbing some sunshine with a cocktail in hand while listening to some tunes to cheer me up. I hope your Saturday night is going well and your hangover is a thing of the past, unless you have decided to begin one all over lol

A little happiness to share. Had heard a few Ukrainians had been placed here. Host families to help them settle in etc.

All the local lads go for a kick about on the club pitch every night now the weather has turned. If a game is on they wait there turn then pile on.

So tonight they made a new friend. 14 year old Ukrainian lad came up with his Mum and the same aged lad in his support family. Blended right in, 5 hours of football was played lol

My lad tells me his English is pretty good but he isn’t sure of his name yet. All meeting again tomorrow at 5pm for same again.

Awe, how nice. I’m sure the Ukrainian lad must be thrilled to find new friends in his new adoptive country.

We have a great community here, everyone looks out for each other. GAA is the heartbeat of it and the sense of belonging it gives is immeasurable.

You don’t need to have a common language to kick a ball with other kids, sport crosses all boundaries. My giggling lad did tell me when asking him about home he was free and easy with ‘F*** Russia.

I laughed most about the innocence of my own lad ?

That sense of community it is what’s missing from many places, especially in the US and that’s why I feel people here feel so disconnected and unhappy. So you and your family are fortunate to be able to have such sense of belonging.

You are right at times there is no need for language needed when there is a ball involved, that’s the common language of sports. And F****Rusia can also be the common language to address a tyrant ?

Community has always been huge for me and it always centred around our football club. Our town saw horrible times but maybe that’s why community spirit is as strong as it is.

To know your neighbours have your back is about as much as you can ask for really.

And yes Sassy, F*** Russia.

Our community in recent years has been centered around our daughter and her group of friends whose parents have become our friends too. At our neighborhood we are very close with just two set of families. Those who like us have been living in the same neighborhood for over a decade, everyone else has come and go. Since moving here over 15 new houses have been built so we have a lot of younger people around us that just keep to themselves and don’t even attempt to interact. Thus unfortunately I don’t feel a good sense of community in our neighborhood, I wish we did as that’s how it also was in Colombia. The neighbours would look after each other. I also remember all the elders sitting outside under the porches, chatting, playing music while the kids played games, it was like a weekend festival and for us kids it was so much fun. Eventually I would like to find that sort of connection again in our neighborhood.

As a foreigner in a new land I thank you and whomever gave them refuge ,hopefully it is for the short term .We have a Ukranian friend here and they have sorted some placements and asked for household stuff to tide them over and help them settle .As if the language isn't enough they also have the weather !!!

Someone needs to start it and after the latest horror it seems a good time to me as all will feel the same dread and need friends .Go for it @Sassy Colombian ,if anyone can do it you can and it will be good for everyone .Next week seems a good time to get them all together .Why not open a debate with both sides ( If there are ) putting their voices forward ?

Great! What position does he play? Can he solo yet? :-)

Morning peeps.

Good day at Ormskirk Market yesterday. Weather was fab and me and Mrs J worked our butts off selling to raise almost £650 for the animals. The hardest thing I found was having to be pleasant and engage everyone including the many gobshites in RS shirts ! Depressingly there was only 1 ( a child ) in an Everton top but countless RS ones!

Anyway we were made up with that total but bloody hard work. Retired to the garden and had a glass of wine in the early evening sun and woke up an hour later ! Fortunately I missed the England game ! Who really cares about international matches ?

Dilemna today @anjelikaferrett - do I go to yoga or watch the cricket? You just know that Root and Foakes will get out in the first 2 overs and we will fall 30 runs short.

@Sassy Colombian sorry you are still suffering from covid but great that you had the strength to post such a lovely photo for everyone on another thread lol .

Anyway - whatever you do have a lovely time.
