I have watched the link on Everton site showing the first tower crane being erected ,it reminded me of being on the site of the then new premium bonds offices in Bispham nr. Blackpool .I was the foreman joiner and we were doing the formwork for the concrete base of the hexangonal building ,anyway they installed a tower crane for the later construction and asked me ( I was 26 ) if I wanted to go up top .
Of course I said yes but what a mistake that was ,I am OK with heights ,as the building goes up so does your tolerance but climbing the ladder up to the top was so frightening ,wind blowing and getting higher all the time ,I was so afraid but I did get up to the top .
The crane driver asked me could I see the load he was going to lift way down in the centre of the earth or so it seemed . Yes I could so he said well let's lift it then.
If you have never been it is impossible to imagine the next step ,as he started to pick up the load the whole crane bends A LOT ,many metres ,I still have shivers thinking "What luck ? First time up and it snaps " One for the bucket list ?

Not for me Blue. I get dizzy on a stepladder ?

I am fine with heights except if I have a hangover - then I get quite dizzy.

Lesson learned many years ago when I climbed the Munster tower in Bern the morning after after a long day's drinking with my Swiss mate.

344 steps in a winding enclosed staircase to the viewing platform. The spire itself is just over 100m high - I would guess the platform is about 70-75 m high.

I was nearly on my knees hanging on to the rail of the platform, and I barely peeped over to look down. ? lol

Mate I'd be on my knees too after climbing 344 steps?

I have a good mate going for a day trip to Helsinki tomorrow (from Tallinn). Any recommendations for him?
