Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Just having a pint with my friendly Irish bar manager to kill a couple of hours before the ferry goes. We're all on our way back to sunny Cornwall as sadly the damage to the boat was worse than feared and will be out of the water for at least a month. Had a really good time though.
That's such a shame. Glad you had an enjoyable time though.

Hello all. Hope everyone is having a good day. We've had allsorts of weather today, sun, cloudy, heavy rain, wind. A proper mixed bag. As predicted the gym last night nearly killed me. I was not feeling the love at all!

Unbelievably and despite the emotional roller coaster our beloved blues put us through last season, I'm missing them already! It must be some sort of addiction. Hopefully the Test match starting next week will fill a bit of the hole.

I loved that video @Terrarian . Animals are just as capable as us to develop friendships and show love to each other.

Have a lovely evening x

I think it's a common theme. We could never get people to join the union committee. Nobody would come forward. We eventually adopted the direct approach- identified people who we thought would be good reps and asked them directly. We did get some excellent reps by using that tactic. You could try it.
Thats exactlly the approach we discussed in the pub afterwards

Raining here in West Lancs. Forecast poor for the day. So, with Mrs J working at the charity shop Tintin and Rosie will keep Granny company whilst I'm doing a leg session in the gym.

Chaired the table tennis league AGM last evening ,to mix metaphors, it was a cross between herding cats and pulling teeth.

No one wants to come onto the committee, we have no gender or ethnic diversity and the league is getting older without any succession planning. And when we trying to introduce modest reforms to encourage younger and family participation like an earlier start ( and therefore finish ) to matches they get voted down. Don't know why I bother.

I wonder if this apathy is replicated in other sporting organisations?

Anyway have a lovely day all.
I feel your pain when it comes to committees and volunteers. Unless you are actively involved in the running of a club you can only underestimate the level of time and commitment needed.

My own club can always do with more volunteers but in general we are doing well. Other clubs struggle and it falls to the same old regulars time and time again to walk the hard yards.

There is an Irish expression to capture those who talk a lot from the sidelines but don’t lend a hand- ‘the Hurler in the ditch’.

Every committee needs fresh blood and fresh ideas but how you attract that is the million dollar question.
