Martinez - Thoughts So Far?

How many times today did poor Ross get the ball outside the box held it with defenders all around him - no one made a run other than the 2 slide rule passé Jelly , and KM both cocked up! we need a striker who can score Victor looks better than what we have at the moment!!!!!

I noticed that too. No forward runs. We were lined up, static, around Cardiffs box and just passed the ball sideways back and forth.

There's that too.

Addition to that, people are saying the striker is isolated. Again, Barkley is learning but shouldn't he be linking up with the striker?

He did play at least one nice through ball to Jelavic that he hooked into the stand. Maybe there was two? Another to Kevin I think who should have hit it with his left, unless that was someone else.

He's picking the ball up deeper than would be usual for a striking partnership and has two or three players in between him and Jelavic.

So instead of interchanging with Jelavic, he's having to run the ball himself and look for options out wide. It's a flaw in the system at the moment and why it looks like we're relying on Barkley exclusively to attack.

Barkley is the only one who ever looks likely, yes. Surprised at that sine Mirallas has everything needed to be a regular goalscorer.

Mirallas needs to have his ar*e smacked he's been poor for 3 games now, hope he hasn't spat the dummy out those comments in the summer that he wanted to go to Spain.

I hate to say this but you know with Moyes he would be hauled in the managers office and given a good b*llocking over performances lately just worries me that Bobby is not the type of character to do this as I think its what he needs.

He seemed ok in pre season though. It might be all the speculation, and the lack of ambition we will be showing if we sell the two players, including his mate

Will give him till Christmas if he,s lucky. He must keep Felli and Baines and thats just to keep fans on side till Christmas.Kone and Jelly fn awful, start Vic next game. Osman went AWOL second half, should have had Delaflau on sooner.

He'll be given longer than that. Blue Bill can't afford to sack him. What's he on, a 4-year contract? Anyway, far too early to start thinking about that. I'm certain that we're 2 players away from getting the ball rolling in his preferred system.

The only downside is that our best players are not getting the service or the chance to do what they do best. Mirallas' best trait is direct running, you can';t do that when you're passing the ball 5 yards all the time. Same with Baines and Coleman.

Martinez has said it will take time, the knee jerk reaction in laughable,on the match thread at three minutes past three there was a post "this is dreadful".come on FFS.

I see Martinez as a manager who has a plan,it's not going to happen overnight,he has stated he's giving youth a chance to shine and I think that's the way this club will go.we can't compete with the big money clubs so we need to get the best out of our youth policy.RM has recognised that's the way ahead, and I'm thinking his vision is to produce class players for our first team.that has too be the way forward.young players are getting a chance even at this early stage,I expect more to come through as the season goes on,has to be a good thing
RM is fighting tooth and nail to hold onto our players,(nice to see him getting a bit of support from the chairman wouldn't it)

If you see this as a project, then Things aren't so bad.no,we haven't set the football world alight ,but unbeaten, two away games played.younger players getting game time and developing nicely.I would hope to see more youngsters coming.do believe we'll get it right.not this season perhaps ,but with patience from the fans and their support I do think the team will get it right.what they won't need is a knee jerk reaction when things aren't going well. He'll get it right I think.

We'll all know once the window closes what Martinez is made of. If he knows the deficiencies and deals with them or if he has succumbed to Bill's lust and played the game of BVI bank balance....either way, what the squad looks like in the middle of next week will determine where we will be by Christmas

Please don't use words like 'project', bad enough we are winning the passing at the moment without being Brenda's poor relations...

It's been OK so far. They're keeping the ball as well as they did under Moyes last season (maybe even a little better), but still seem predictable and easy to defend against.

If Mirallas' form doesn't improve soon then he'll have to be dropped or moved central, as the team's inability to counter-attack at pace down the flanks is undermining Martinez's tactics. Luckily Deulofeu looks a very handy replacement.

Barkley has been the biggest positive, especially now that he's showing an eye for a killer pass. Jelavic has to go though; there aren't many worse strikers in the division.

Do you know why that happened? Jelavic was marked out by one or two men, so they just shadowed his run, and the rest of the midfield were so deep and behind the drive of Barkley that they could just stick two men in front of him.

Invariably, Ross had three options:

1 - Coleman or Baines late run round the outside, but they were tracked well all game.
2 - A Hollywood pass into the striker on a pinpoint.
3 - A pot shot from range.

Barkley was good today, but as the second half progressed you could see him really trying to pick the killer ball and not playing instinctively.

The reason Barkley and Deulofeu are standing out so much right now is because they're just by and large going out there and playing footy - the rest of them are thinking about what to do too much and it's easy for sides to defend against.

On the flip side, we're very rarely out of position defensively either and there's no excessive movement in midfield, so we're defensively sound!

"You must spread some reputation around before giving it to Tubey again"

Can't change what's been and gone.

Pointless whinging about it.

Beat Chelsea and all of a sudden it's not a bad start.
