Playing Baines in midfield rather than besic or gibson is worse than playing barry there.

Why?

Baines is far better in possession than Barry. He has a the ability to dribble past players when pressed and his passing is excellent both long and short.

He also has the ability to hit diagonal balls in to the box which I think Rom would thrive on. He would get far more assists and goals than Barry. Having Baines as someone on the edge of the box ready to take a pop would worry any team which would force them to rush him leaving space behind to play in a forward.

The only thing he would lack is game management but he's 30 and has loads of experience. Unless he's a moron I'm sure he would be fine.

To me what I don't understand is why we even signed Barry in the summer. Garbutt looked amazing in pre-season and Oviedo proved himself an able deputy last year.

If you're point is that he's not as good as Besic or Gibson then that's different.

Besic would play as a replacement for McCarthy and Gibson won't stay fit which is why I said I would rotate those players.

Kenwright's based in London, probably more bothered about what's going on at the palladium

The only reason that someone who lived in Dubai and was massively oil rich would care about the club would be A- as an investment... cue the club becoming a faceless enterprise with proposed name/kit/sponsor/stadium changes and with a different gaffer/set of players every other season. But yeah we might finish 4th. or B- we happen to stike gold with an english expat, lifelong toffees fan, who cares about bthe club's history and guides us beautifully to glory whilst still retaining the clubs morals/ethics/work rate etc.

Although I see Chelsea and Man City fans don't mind much so maybe I'm being too much of an idealist. Wish I just cared about winning and nowt else
