After a nights sleep in me, I'm still not on the Martinez Out train yet, but I'm sticking by my stance that if we get relegated, I want him gone

He's on a lot of money for a second tier manager and his tactics would be easily countered in The Championship, especially when you consider our best players would either leave/be sold

If we stay up, I'll wait and see how we do in the first few months of the new season

I think that's reasonably fair

This is my issue this time round. What will the damage be then if its still bad. Probably a few good players gone in the summer to boot. This is a good squad that should be up there but its not and that is all down to style of play. My worry is he will get rid of some players in the summer to be able to get others in that can play his style and nothing will change results wise. It's a gamble, do we get rid before he rips the squad apart and HOPE he gets it right or do we get someone else to work with this set of players first.

I think that if we survive, he does deserve a chance to right the ship

However, he should be under intense scrutiny during his third season

Exactly - It's too dangerous giving him the transfer window.

I thought as well that giving him to Christmas was the best bet but the manner of that defeat has woken me up.

The issue i have with last nights game was not the fact we went out. We scored 2 goals both home and away and you would have taken that before last weeks game. The problem here is the way we went out, almost as if we were trying to. We played the opposite of how we played to win games recently and oddly enough we lost because of it . We went back to the philosophy and of course it failed.

the poor defence came back to haunt us as well, what has taken us to a relegation battle and knocked out of europe despite being the better team in all honesty.

Now i have two thoughts. Martinez has and is continuing to do a poor job, and personally he shouldnt be in charge from next year. We are a top team in the league and put spurs / liverpool / united / chelsea / city in our position right now, would they give him more time? People seem to forget we challenge for europe most years and now we dont know when we will get back there. We are massively under performing far beyond the quality of the team so giving him next season could well give us 10-15 games handicap on the top teams again before we find out if he is good enough.

the other thought is that this gives him chance to rebuild now if he wants to plan ahead. Alcaraz out of contract means he will need replacing instead of signing which means a better defender should come in. same as other areas bar barry who i swear to god is bordering neville territory now in the team. but when all said and done will he even change our play because he seems incapable of doing it when we are failing.

Also , forget aggregate scores, we are 3-1 down at half time and NOTHING changes. We are 5-1 down and we then bring besic on! That is the management of someone who should not be in their job much longer after the season he has had!

He will NEVER be sacked guys

EVER

The only way he's out of this club will be if he resigns

We can't afford to sack him. He's on a five year deal

He's here until HE wants to go
He's now got 4 years left.

Since most contracts have performance clauses it's highly unlikely (although nothing can be taken for certain) that we would have to pay him for the full 4 years.

However even if we did it would cost us far less than relegation and I hate to say it but without Rom next season that's exactly what we would be looking at. The question is not really if at this stage but when.

We'll give him to the end of the season but his job is on the line. Unless we make 10th and top half he needs to go.

Having slept on it.

I would still have to give him until October, unless the same mistakes and calamities persist until the end of the season.

This is really his final watershed.

He has been living on the grace of last season now for 7 months.

If we could see some light and the same problems not being repeated consistently, I am sure 99% of the people who want him out would give him a bit more time.

But, he is making a rod for his own back every time he sends a side onto the park and then opens his mouth afterwards.

Don't let the stupidity of a certain poster on here grind you down and make you dislike Martinez. He has had 1 fantastic season and 1 appalling season. On the strength of that most of us would give him one more chance.

It really starts on Sunday for me and then how we perform in the last 1/4 of the season. I still think even though last night even though we made some defensive howlers, I always felt we were in the game.

Barkley looked good again, Lukaku is playing great, Lennon will come back in to add a bit of pace and Gibson hopefully a bit of guile. He needs to drop Howard, Alcaraz, Naismith and Barry on Sunday, if he persists with those 4 until the end of the season then I do not blame every fan that calls for his head, for he will have brought it on himself.

I'd put money on Howard and Naismith starting on Sunday mate. And Barry would too if he wasn't suspended.

Horrible isn't it?

The fact remains that he did well in his first season, playing a certain way with certain tactics

This season, he's done exactly the same and we've had a bad season because he's been tactically sussed out

The issue is not whether he can organise a defence as such, because we finished 5th last year and had a reasonable defensive record

The issue is whether he is prepared or even capable to adapt and change

We go into next season with the same tactics then we'll get the same results

He needs to realise that we just don't have the money on offer for him to get the type of players he wants to play the style of football he wants at this club

He needs to find a strategy to fit the players he currently has at his disposal. It's why Wigan eventually went down and why we're currently in the miss we're in

He needs to take ownership of his tactical weaknesses and failings, which as of yet he hasn't done

His stubborness is incredibly galling

Still though, if we stay up I will be fine with him staying on for at least the start of 15/16

Ultimately, it doesn't matter what I think because, as already mentioned, there's no way we'd sack him. He's here until he wants to leave

That's a fair reasonable position and should be the position of everyone. He has a target of 10th in the league and if he fails he should be gone.

Our squad is easily good enough to haul back 8 points from a West Ham team in free fall.

I just want the cart gone.

Completely ruined us and put us back YEARS in the space of 12 months. His inability to publicly recognise his failings has been laughable, continiously praising his squad despite an absolutely appalling season.

We won't be in europe any time soon, and we'll now very likely see an exodus of our best players as they'll want a club with ambition (we won't be spending in the summer) and european football (lol 15th place finish).

That was a Moyes-style bottle job last night.

Just don't know who I'd have in Martinez's place.

He hasn't done exactly the same thing though has he mate?

He's made terrible decisions constantly. Last season he was praised for making great decisions.

I don't know. I just really hate our manager at the moment, but want him to succeed as that means Everton are doing well.
