I think this poll puts the idea that not many people wanted him out safely to bed.

I think this poll is just as flawed as the one put up today.

This poll was started after (well technically during) the Kiev game. Most people aren't arsed enough to change their vote.

The poll put up today shows this isn't the actual sentiment...it was voted on knee jerking pissy pants for the most part.

No, what's 'knee jerking pissy pants' is people wanting Martinez out after the Kiev & Stoke games (and rightly so after a terrible run of results & decisions over 4 months) and now changing their opinion because we won a few league games on the bounce.

Sometimes it's not just about results. Or at least it shouldn't be.

Perhaps. However, as I've stated I've supported him all along and a bad spell is knee jerking to want his head IMO. Even after Kiev or Stoke.

Oh, they've had a much better season that us, no doubt about that, but that's no reason not to have a dig at them when they're hurting. Not so much the decent kopites ( of which there are a few ), more the hangers on who only show an interest when they look like they're doing well.

Anyway, Martinez. His job is to deliver a league position commensurate with the money available to him for playing costs, so he needs to be there, or thereabouts in terms of Europa league qualification. Which means he outperformed a bit in season one and has failed woefully in season two. Next season he'll have had as much time as is reasonable expected to mould the squad into how he wants it and he'll stand or fall on that. Top eight is a must really, anything less and he'll have failed two seasons on the trot and it'll be time for someone else to have a crack at the job.

TL;DR ?

  • Kopites are gobshoites ( with some exceptions )
  • Martinez must do better.
Cant see where its all put on Martinez meself like, yes he's had to adapt & learn very quickly.
Short memories need to look at the injuries to almost every key player earlier in the season.
Coupled with the "Extra Duties" in the Europa League found us wanting.
If he and the club are to be questioned its not signing the extra players to cope with this.
Last season I witnessed some of the best football I've seen for many a year.Fearless attacking football
led to our highest points to date and showing no respect to Utd & Arsenal to name but a few.
In my opinion Martinez has learnt more this season than he's ever done, dealing with Etoo & Distin
coupled with loss of of form in senior players & having to shuffle the pack even playing some ouf of position.
One or two quality signings , & a good pre season wiil see us pushing the top four again.
No doubts whatsover this manager will bring us more than Moyes ever threatened to do.

yes one good performance, give him a ten year contract, double his salary and knock down st lukes to build a 200ft bronze statue of his balding head

Which "one good performance" in our five wins out of the last six are you thinking about?

And I think we need a stadium before the statute. To be fair...

I voted martinez out months back

Now, that wasn't due to results solely. It was his style of play, his clueless tactics, poor team selections. His refusal to change his tippy tappy rubbish at the back and deluded pressers and comments.

Credit where credits due. He HAS changed his style. It's obvious thru either the players stance or off his own back we have changed the way we play. Yes still passing based, but not pass at all costs! It's great to see and the performances has improved ten fold.

I just hope this season has learnt the man that philosophy should be a base to work from, not a set in stone way of football.

My fear is that he will push his philosophy and tactics again next season. My hope is he has learnt he has to be more flexible.

Jury still out till next season imo.

LOL!

If Martinez had shown more of a clue this season the poll result would be different. You can't term our crapness a "spell", it was the majority of the season and most on here watched this crap football for ages before concluding the manager was not up to it.

That's an opinion, this isn't RAWK talking [Poor language removed] about how Benitez is a god etc.

Bobby needs to actually plan a pre season this time or we'll be right in it again.
