Wow. Don't think there were many who would've felt that way.

Man for man we've nothing on Chelsea or City. "On our day..." etc. is all well and good but we'd never be good enough to be consistent over 38 games.

We have the players for sure, if I was given the next 12months in charge I could have the title sewn up this time next year.

All it takes is a sprinkling of tactical knowledge.

Yes I agree. I think Martinez probably sees a number 10 playing in an "inside forward" role similar to how Maloney played for Wigan. (With the other flank being an out and out winger). He used Osman/Peinaar in this way a lot. Osman can still play this role but I doubt Peinaar can anymore. I think this is what he was hoping for Barkley to become. I am not sure Barkley has the "intelligence" to do this though.

So you are obviously left with the predicament of what to do with him. There is one possibility of playing him as a "false 9". I can't see this though. His best position is in central midfield. We need to get him on the ball as much as possible with options ahead of him. I think the best way to give cover behind him will be to have a 3rd centre back.
That's exactly right, imo. He's not suited, as you say, for that role in between the lines, you need to be looking to lay it off almost as soon as you get the ball; Ross is a player who like the ball at his feet, space ahead of him and opponents to accelerate past/slalom past.

The three at the back has me nervous as a system, tbh. I always think it's a recipe for disaster when you play decent teams...as Liverpool found out yesterday.

If you could transmit your unbridled confidence to the players then it'd be a good start!

Honestly tho, how hard could it be?

You sit off at FF for 6 hours while the players train, prolly read a book or something, you do that for 5 days, then the day before the match you check out the other teams players on FM, maybe check their wiki pages. Then on matchday you pick a team of talented footballers in a balanced formation, team talks are easy, "Give the ball to Ross, win the game", give Kone a slap as you leave the dressing room and if you feel anybody isnt pulling their weight you call a timeout and give them a proper kicking on the touchline.

Football 101.

Yes it is a one touch position. While lots of people dislike Osman it is a position that suits him massively, as he often has a "picture" before the ball arrives at his feet. I think Martinez has tried to shift Barkley into that role this season and in all honesty it has knackered his confidence.

He needs to get back to what he is good at, which is running at players from deep, shooting and assisting on the counter attack. I don't think Barkley is a particularly intelligent footballer and does not adapt well to other roles, I'm not sure that's something that can be coached and he'd be better sticking to what he's good at.

As for the back 3, well maybe. I suppose it is about getting the right players to fill the positions. Liverpools back 3 with Skirtl and Sakho are not comfortable on the ball enough. Right wing back is also a problem for them. I think they also lack a player like a Barkley/Gibson who can make it tick in midfield.
