He will and if he does get it right, it'll make tolerating his bull crap that bit easier.
Its not like the nonsense he is spouting is anything new. He has been saying the same things since he was appointed. Last season when we were ripping teams apart playing fantasy footy at times, we couldn't get enough of hearing his voice and his ' positivity '. Just last season it went pretty much un-noticed due to our form.

Yes it is a one touch position. While lots of people dislike Osman it is a position that suits him massively, as he often has a "picture" before the ball arrives at his feet. I think Martinez has tried to shift Barkley into that role this season and in all honesty it has knackered his confidence.

He needs to get back to what he is good at, which is running at players from deep, shooting and assisting on the counter attack. I don't think Barkley is a particularly intelligent footballer and does not adapt well to other roles, I'm not sure that's something that can be coached and he'd be better sticking to what he's good at.

As for the back 3, well maybe. I suppose it is about getting the right players to fill the positions. Liverpools back 3 with Skirtl and Sakho are not comfortable on the ball enough. Right wing back is also a problem for them. I think they also lack a player like a Barkley/Gibson who can make it tick in midfield.
Sadly, I think that's right. He's a player with good control of the ball running at pace and he has the ability to gather the ball and turn and do that to devastating effect at times. His strength for me is that he only knows one direction: forward. He's a player that can turn defence into attack very quickly. It might be harsh all this though, because he is relatively young and could develop more in another environment.

Defence: Liverpool replaced Johnson for Can and it seemed to click. He's basically a CM with a physical presence to be in a CD unit. It is vulnerable that though. I take your point about needing dynamic wing backs to make it work, but the space to attack that system means everyone has to be playing spot on to avoid getting a chasing down the flanks.

Martinez chats bubbles/tosh.

Funny, I didn't hear any complaints last season about his interviews and they're content.

Back then (oooh, all of 9 months now, easy) it was: "Bobby's sooo optimistic and positive...it makes a brilliant change from that dour ginger Judas. He's a breath of fresh air isn't he lads?".

Now it's a source of irritation.

Ho hum.

They bloody weren't. We were godawful and then all we bought, having sold arteta, pienaar, saha, beckford, yak and bily was a crap striker from scotland and a manc reject who the man u fans hated so much they drove him off twitter in like an hour with abuse.

Most fans were despairing.

Most people I spoke to were of the opinion that he was a decent player, although not a marque signing

That's normal though surely?

We were boss last year. Being positive sounds normal.

When we're playing utter turd and everyone can see it, it sounds stupid.

Its a source of irritation because he can't deliver, he can talk the talk but that is where it ends. It was only a breath of fresh air because he followed the dour negative Moyes. We replaced him with someone who speaks well, talks well, looks good but the positives end there.

He still has my support but he gets on my tits in press conferences and interviews now, I'm fairly sure if we were winning game after game I'd change my tune, because I'm a fickle tosspot, but for the time being I'm gonna carry on turning off the radio or MOTD before it gets to his interview.

Re Gibson

Well, the internet isn't usually a bastion of good natured optimism to be fair

In the "real" world, most people I spoke to were alright with it

He's rated very poorly by United fans. From what I've seen of him, he's a bog standard central midfielder who enjoys a shot from range on occasion.
Worth a punt for a million, or a loan to buy I guess, but he's not the type of droid we're looking for.

An advance to see off Chelsea and others? Makes sense.
Gibson = good dig on him and combative. I wouldn't be against that transfer, though our forward situation needs sorting first.

FFS, [Poor language removed] OFF!

*flashbacks to John O'Kane

I'd rather have Kieth Andrews.
He's proper shoite.

I would rather sh*t in my hand and clap.
Move along please

He's no Phil Neville like.

It sounds consistent to me. A quality rarely found amongst fans, granted.

Last season he was always making the general point about belief and playing without fear to get the best out of players, and praising their attitude. What should he do this time around other than what he has been saying: that in order to play our way out of this players need to get on the ball and make it happen and believe in themselves.

He cant do it on the pitch himself and it's no use turning 180 degrees from last seasons message because he'd lose all credibility as a manager.

Why cant people accept that this positivity of his is his character? Should he turn himself into some nobhead tea cup smasher and hairdyer manager to make fans feel better about a loss?

What a phoney that'd make him...like that divvy over the road who switches from one message to another at the drop of a hat.
