Strangely, Martinez current win percentage (44.17%), is better than any Everton manager since Howard Kendall, (54.1%), and going further back the next manager with a better win percentage is Harry Catterick, (46.5%). Only 4 Everton managers have a better win percentage than Martinez, and they all won League titles.

What does it all mean? Probably nothing.

It means he's better than Moyes!

Can't argue, he did come out with similar inane comments post match last season. I don't think people are looking for scapegoats though. They see a side as ineffectively as we usually have been this season and a manager who looks powerless and / orunwilling to do anything about it. Added to this are the bewildering decisions like leaving alcarez on all night on thurs, picking barry no matter what, tim howard, trying to sign cleverley in jan when we all knew we needed a centre back etc etc. Then infuriating many supporters with the usual comments that don't address our concerns.

He might have a word with certain players behind closed doors but does anyone believe alcaraz or howard will be dropped like they deserve at QPR? Barry too but I think he's suspended.

I think the big reason I want to stick with him is that we've almost been conditioned to think that 8 months is a long time in football but it isn't. A prolonged dip in form can happen, especially when a lot of your team is on the wrong side of 30. Likewise, with an injection of two or three players and a bit of a clearout in the summer, a team can look entirely different to the one that limped home a season ago.

We're programmed knee-kerkers because we have outlets to opine on magical tactical changes that we can disown at any time. Martinez getting it in the neck for playing Alcaraz, who had a good game against Newcastle, is an example of this. It wasn't tactical naivete that Alcaraz couldn't head a basic ball on the day and, with Stones coming back from sickness and a relegation 6 pointer coming up, most of us would have started him. Gibson didn't play because he's made of snow. I think most of us are aware, on some level, why Besic and McCarthy mightn't work in practice, but Martinez has to actually make that call, so Barry started. Alcaraz should probably have been hooked at half time, but what can you do? He won't start against QPR, I don't think even the most pessimistic of us believe that.

My point is, we don't really know what Martinez has to deal with. I criticise him plenty here, but with the knowledge that I'm a layman and couldn't possibly comprehend the huge amount of pressure and infinite possibilities of football management. We've heard all of the examples (Moyes, Kendall) who had rough seasons and went on to much better things, and ignoring that because of our current malaise will turn us into a club with one or two year cycles of managers, which I definitely don't want. Sacking Roberto now would be a big mistake, and he's got my IN vote until next year at least.

funny how it seems
Always in time, but never in line for dreams.
Head over heels when toe to toe.
This is the sound of my soul,
This is the sound

I bought a ticket to the world,
But now I've come back again
Why do I find it hard to write the next line?
Oh I want the truth to be said

Huh huh huh hu-uh huh
I know this much is true
Huh huh huh hu-uh huh
I know this much is true.

Gone for In.

Firstly I don't think he's getting fired unless we go into the relegation place.

Secondly it was our advantage for years of little to no net spend that we had consistency in our manager, I don't think this should be given up on lightly as an ideal. (excepting a slip into relegation spots)

Finally for those picking over his press conferences, it's mainly meaningless platitudes. If we win people ignore it, if we lose people listen to it and hope for some sort of explanation beyond what they saw on the pitch.

Always thought it was "I wanna take her to the world" which wouldn't have made any sense. Thanks for clearing up 30 years of confusion and darkness.

Lads/Ladies...

I'm gonna go HUGELY off topic here but do bear with me. It's an ask, for a bit of help from you lovely folk...

On a non-footballing note - (and from a personal point of view) - I should say our club have been AMAZING this week, from Rob Elstone to the media/PR team down to the manager, players, SHARPY & those at EVERTON TV, faultless all.

The CLUB response & input has been both swift & overwhelming, truly above and beyond & based on that alone I don't think I've ever been more proud to support the club I do...

So, some of you may have seen it already, on TV, in the paper, across the web. FINN is the little boy of a friend, he is 7, he's a dude & a little blue from a family of blues. I won't go into detail here, have a look at the link if you can, but FINN needs a little bit of help & luck at the moment. Even if you can just spread the word, that'd be cool, if you'd consider registering, well, that'd be pretty well amazing also...

FINN needs a HERO, it is that simple, and that HERO could be you or someone who reads a re-post or someone who sees a link...

In short; there's someone out there that can change EVERYTHING for this little dude and his lovely family.

So, he needs some help, and he's a blue. That's all we need to know really isn't it? Y'know, it's a FABRIC thing innits...

Thank you muchly if you've taken the time to read/watch.

Apologies, for posting here, but it's an active thread, if some of you could maybe share on your own social media that'd be grand.

And almost worth the telling off I'll get off the Admin & Mods (soz)

“Antolin and Phil had created a very strong partnership in the previous two games and after keeping a clean sheet against Newcastle there is no need to dislodge that.

“Second, since he had the virus John has not played any football so it would be a major, major risk to throw him into a game of that intensity with the last experience he had away from home in Europe when he got sent off.

“It was important to have continuity in the back four that kept a clean sheet on Sunday and that is the reason.”

Martinez added: “Antolin had to deal with too many actions that we, as a team, didn’t stop well enough on Thursday night.

“I don’t think defensively he had a poor game, I think as a team we put our defence and keeper under immense pressure because our defensive performance as a team wasn’t up to standard.”

Is he serious?! Every reason he has given for Alcaraz being in the team could have been applied to Robles over Howard!

The man can't keep a track of all the bollocks he talks.

JUST TAKE OWNERSHIP OF YOUR MISTAKE AND ADMIT YOU WERE WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!

We'd all respect you much more if you did so

Put the blame on yourself for the selection. Say Alcaraz did his best and that there's room for improvement, then take most of the heat yourself as opposed to talking absolute BOLLOCKS in a way to somehow justify your mistake

Good call mate. There's a thread in the ale house too which i've just stickied. You might want to cut and paste this into that one so it doesn't get lost in the inconsequential noise in here (y)

No you wouldn't. You'd use it as a stick to beat him with by saying he's lost it.

Everton. The nearly club yet again. Never seems to end that.

Had our points total and the way we were playing last season, somehow be this season, we would be pretty much nailed on to not only finish in the top 4 and the lucrative CL, but maybe even finish behind Chelsea.

The way City and Utd are playing currently, nothing is concrete. Last season's Everton would easily qualify and possibly have pushed Chelsea had it been this.

The nearly club. Wrong place wrong time.

This post got me thinking, so I checked out last seasons results. At this stage of the season, after 29 games, we had 54 points.

That total this season would have is level on points with Liverpool, who are currently sitting in 5th position.
