If you're calling someone delusional because you've suddenly decided that his vanilla press soundbites are actually an accurate reflection of his thoughts, you'll find an argument whether you came for one or not.

To be fair, the actions/inactions martinez makes usually back up a lot of the looped dross he spouts post match

I think people are drawing lines between his quotes and his actions because they're incredibly annoyed with him. Unfortunately, our terrible season is reaching critical mass and any stick will do. He said equally banal things last season post-match and we didn't notice because we were winning. Martinez has never publicly slated a player, even Distin who he has put in a box somewhere, and it would be mad to expect him to start now just because we're looking for scapegoats.

He's right not to publicly slate individual players IMO. It would be terrible man management. But you would hope he's given 1 or 2 of them a hiding behind closed doors.

Strangely, Martinez current win percentage (44.17%), is better than any Everton manager since Howard Kendall, (54.1%), and going further back the next manager with a better win percentage is Harry Catterick, (46.5%). Only 4 Everton managers have a better win percentage than Martinez, and they all won League titles.

What does it all mean? Probably nothing.

Not many want to go back to the worst excesses of the Moyes era and the last time I looked 69.9% don't want the Martinez version of the pass, pass, pass, ( think Itchy and Scratchy, but instead of fight it's pass)

There must be a 'Goldilocks option'... not too Moyes and not too Martinez.
No there isn't. You either want to play football or you want to hit it long. We know how hard it's been at this club to get ourselves weaned off a brand of football that looks for the easy option long ball. Any retreat now away from footballing principles that underline a passing game over direct football will slide right into the hoofball we've been trying to avoid.

This club has been synonymous with knocking the ball long. It's no use denying it. We just are (or were until very recently).

If back to the future is on the cards we really are contemplating a return to the dark ages again. It was never good to watch and wont be if it returns. We all complained bitterly about the mostly turgid clueless brand of football played at Everton for the last decade and a half, let's not forget that.

Can't argue, he did come out with similar inane comments post match last season. I don't think people are looking for scapegoats though. They see a side as ineffectively as we usually have been this season and a manager who looks powerless and / orunwilling to do anything about it. Added to this are the bewildering decisions like leaving alcarez on all night on thurs, picking barry no matter what, tim howard, trying to sign cleverley in jan when we all knew we needed a centre back etc etc. Then infuriating many supporters with the usual comments that don't address our concerns.

He might have a word with certain players behind closed doors but does anyone believe alcaraz or howard will be dropped like they deserve at QPR? Barry too but I think he's suspended.

Some people need to turn-off FIFA 2008 and get out to a real game
