This is the biggest issue I have. Wigan wasn't a sinking ship when he arrived, they had actually shown to be quite competent under Jewell and Bruce, so he didnt even have to steady a ship he was brought in to make them better and he never did in the league.

He has no evidence that he can produce and turn things around. They scrapped by in all but one season he was in charge of Wigan.

No obviously were not Wigan, but we're definitely not a Stoke or a West Ham mid table safety team. We're battling with Spurs and Liverpool for European football. We finished 6th, 7th, 7th, 8th, 5th, 5th, 6th with Moyes before Martinez come. Moyes what ever your thoughts about him transformed us from a mid table and frankly bad safety team to a competitive hard to beat team.

We needed someone to build and progress on those foundations and Martinez obviously did that last season. But this season has been a disaster, and history shows that Martinez can't handle trouble we at all.

I'm all for giving managers time, I'd hate us to be like Sunderland making joke appointments all the time, but this guy just hasn't been able to maintain that character and attitude. The team is completely void of confidence and full of naivety which stems from Martinez.

He doesn't have the bottle to drop players and he is so blinkered to his ways he is just dragging us down big time.

Great post that, the part about Wigan is spot on. When he came i think some made an excuse for Wigan going down saying it was because of injuries, when in reality it wasn't. We were also deluded because they turned us over so easily at Goodision and had won something, it was a easy mistake for us to make.

If Martinez stays we are looking over our shoulder again next season, none of this give him until Christmas....etc because we will be out of the league cup by then and worried in the league, mathmaticaly safe this season then he can do one.

He's not finished but I would play Garbutt to the end of the season and say to him he would be first choice next year.

I would then move Baines into Barry's position and get rid of Barry at the end of the season. I would also sell McCarthy especially if we could get 20m and promote Besic and rotate Besic, Barkley, Gibson and Baines in those positions depending on the individual game.

IMO - That would make us 20m, save us another 3 on wages and strengthen the team.

However what will happen is nothing and we will loose a future England left back and be left with an unbalanced team.

How much is Martinez paid a year?

Well thank Fook you won't be the next everton manager!! Haha

Guys, I'll say this once more and leave it at that, at no point is he going to be sacked

If we're still in the mess we are come December, the supporters anger may force him to resign, but he won't be sacked

As someone mentioned earlier, they may come to a "mutual agreement" to part ways, but at no point will Bill wield the sack hammer
Just because we stood by Moyes doesn't mean we will Martinez.

Moyes didn't spend over 30m in one transfer window to end up fighting relegation and putting us out of both cups in the first round.

We'll see how season ticket sales go but if they aren't good Martinez will be fired.

From what I've seen he always gravitates back to his natural position anyway when played on the wings; that being said I think he is most effective cutting in from the left ( because all he does is shoot) but I just think he is no where near the standard that Arteta was at, although he does have age on his side.
It's important to remember the age point. Arteta was failing miserably at Real Sociedad at his age.

we were second best all over that pitch last night, regardless of an aggregate scoreline
...and last week at Goodison, weren't they second all over the pitch?

That's European football really. Home advantage needs to be fully taken and we didn't get the goals we required.

LOL at the fact there was more of a Kick Off last season because of the Club Crest and the removal of NSNO, than there is over this sorry mess and that 30% of you are willing to let this clown have the power over probably our 1st or 2nd biggest ever transfer kitty aslong as the prick doesn't relegate us first.

This is why we are seen as a soft touch and a small club, this is the reason why no Journo's give us a mention, this is the reason why the Daily Fecking Mirror try to sell our players every week, this will be the reason why will revert to losing our better players and replacing them with the likes of McGeady, Lennon, Alcaraz and Tom Cleverley. Because no-one at the top of our club is brave enough to make a strong decision, Sunderland are like 3 points behind us an have sacked their manager, Palace and West Brom have over taken us.

Shame on you for accepting this crap.

He should have gone at Christmas and I guarantee he will sign a load of second rate, has-beens on inflated contracts, for stupid fees

Criminal.

5 relegation struggles in 6 years as a top flight manager and 30% of you think he is the right man.

Dear me.

Lads, we still have 9 games left each one is a cup final...every week we are going to be in a cup final which is more than we could have asked for to be honest.

Problem is, seven of those games are cup finals for the opposition too. 4 teams locked in the relegation slugfest, and three scrapping for european places.
