I think we have reached the stage where he couldn't change tactics niw even if he wanted to.

Bobby likes to play chess on grass and to use a chess analogy he has lost control of the board.

The Barcodes will do what every other team has now learned to do against him.

Even Wenger at the Emirates.

Just let Eveton have the ball. Give them enough rope and they will hang themselves.

Sit back or press high up and just await the inevitable mistakes.
He is gambling with our premier league status to prove a point

@bicycleheader "Don´t get me wrong, I would love an Europa League win right now where we parked the bus for the remainder of the tournament and squeezed out 1-0 wins, but as a general policy for the style of football at the club...no thanks"

That was exactly my point ffs. As that's what Mourinho would do (if he deemed it necessary) in games were winning was all that ultimately mattered i.e. a cup game. Martinez came out with the complete coverse - hence my post.

“Winning a trophy at any price can be very costly in the long run,’’ he explained. “Of course you have to defend, but you want to be creative, constructive.” He will not “park the bus” to secure results to win a trophy.

Quite how winning a pot when you've not lifted one for 2 decades, could ever be "costly" is logic that is beyond me - hence my sarcasm.

The only realistic way to get amongst the elite clubs for CL places and trophies is to spend hundreds of millions. It's a myth you can do it by a policy of selling and spending wisely/bringing youth through.

An Everton a manager's job under Kenwright is to protect the tv revenue money and ensure it's never in peril. The only thing to be determined is whether you want a manager who can play entertaining football within that financial straitjacket or whether you just go for a meat and potatoes type of approach with a manager like Moyes.

At last we come to the crux of the matter and if the fans spent more time on why Bobby was hired in the first place then we would have to shift this debate to another thread.

IMHO Bobby was hired because he fitted Bill,s Fin straight-jacket

a) Cheap Hire.
b) Yes man who could be shaped and managed by Bill to the clubs Fin budget.
c) Hyper-positive manager whom could sell Bill,s "Dream" to the media, fans, new and existing players.
d) Won a cup - thus allowed Bill to sell this to the fan-base and players that he could do it again - after 20 years of nothing won.
e) Could bring his back-room staff and ex players to the club which would have helped with saving money for the club coffers.

I am 1000% positive that Bill has no intention to get rid of Bobby because his quiet life would go to the wall and he would have to find another of the same ilk to do the job under the same expectations and direction set by Bill. I feel sorry for the fans who have had to put up with this for 20 years under Walter Smith, David Moyes and Bobby, whilst paying higher tkt prices and in the same ground conditions getting the same results.

I don,t think he has got an Oxford moment in him and I expect the fans, players are all going to be put through the grinder until those words are raised "told you so".

That's what he tells bill to keep himself in a job.
Its ironic really bill has lied to us all these years and now Martinez makes things up and makes bill believe them.

Yes.

And I have this recurring bad dream that in six or seven years time we have done a Leeds and Bobby is giving an interview in the wake if winning his first title in Italy with AC Milan or in Portugal with Porto, saying that he learned from his mistakes at Everton :(

We have so much more at stake here than Roberto Martinez ior any iof his players do.

They will all move on eventually and for most of them EFC will be either a footnote or a stepping stone.

But it is something that will occupy our lives every day until we die.

listen...we had a "find a way to win(or more accurately, not lose)" manager for a decade. Now we have a manager with a different outlook. I don´t see the point in criticising him for not being like Mourinho, when quite clearly he and many other managers in the game don´t see football like Mourinho. Mourinho only cares about winning, which is fair enough but not for everybody. For myself it´s not all about winning, and many supporters I know think the same.

Don´t get me wrong, I would love an Europa League win right now where we parked the bus for the remainder of the tournament and squeezed out 1-0 wins, but as a general policy for the style of football at the club...no thanks. I´d prefer see what the current boss can do given time, or failing that a similarly minded manager as his replacement.

He is certainly not "off his tits". What an odd way to think about views on football which are very common.

To be fair, our three European away matches in the group were textbook park the bus, hit on the break performances.

So he can do it when he wants.

Ditto Chelsea in the PL where we should have had at least a point.

Liverpool and arsenal were also very defensive performances.

It's not that he can't switch from being attacking to being defensive, it's that we've been mostly crap at doing both.

"It's very tough to get 36 points"

Well in Bob. As your little poodle keeps reminding us, you doubled that and got 72 last season. So how did you mastermind that colossal feat? Has it got so much tougher, 1 year and £34m later?

Some of his comments are phenomenal

"The big advantage I have is that I've been through that every season."

Asked if his team were guilty of over-passing, he said: "Never. I don't think you can. You can never over-pass. Passing for the sake of it is not going to take you anywhere. There's a reason behind every pass."
