Quite honestly Martinez hasn't exactly set the world alight for me, however the fact that he's walked in here and without appearing to do very much has been able to prove to be easily the equal of Moyes results wise shows you to what extent Moyes was either over rated or held us back, or both.

yeah i would agree with that completely, and i'm a fan of some of his signings, he's just not who i wanted as our manager

At the moment I like what I see...one aspect I liked yesterday was the subs - obviously Piennar was great, but he brought on Naismith and Kone to keep a bit of pressure on Hull and give them something new to consider..Ok Kone missed but he didn't let that get to him and had a more difficult chance which their keeper saved well..Naismith also kept their defence occupied and in the end they never troubled us.

Instead of taking Rooney off for Smalling and trying to stay at 1-0 (ha Ha)

Wasn't that just a delicious irony.....shades of Fulham away last season.

I am reserving judgement for what its worth, but have been impressed so far. But I dont understand why you keep going on about the fact you didnt want him, and I certainly dont agree that promoting from within would have been such a great idea. There is a reason why a coach is a coach, and manager is a manager. Totally different skills required. Ask Brian Kidd to quote one such example off the top of my head.

FACT - We have only ever won a cup with a manager who has previously played for us.
FACT - The coaches know the players better than any newcomer.
FACT - David Moyes was a coach at PNE before stepping up.
FACT - Everyone has to start somewhere.

:)

Would you say Davie Weir would have a better chance of winning the cup this season than Bob?

What reason does knowing someone well impact on how well you can teach or improve them. A poor coach is a poor coach and a good coach is a good one. Familiarity can breed contempt.

yeah i would actually, he could get the defenders defending!

Never realised that. Nice one. Means absolutely nothing though. On that basis, Utd will deffo win the CL under Moyes cos thay have only won it with a Scottish manager.

In modern footie, I struggle to recall a succesful, internal promotion of a coach to manager. You didnt want him, fair enough, he wasnt at the top of my list if I am honest. But I shuddered when all the internal guys were interviewed, with BK keeping an eye on the cost like. Rarely works.

Fair enough. He probably should have done that at Sheff Utd then.

Plus I think we learned the hard way you don't win a cup defending.

I just don't see any correlation between the facts you posted and how it affects the future?

there's your correlation :)

i don't know what the future holds, but as i've said countless times, i didn't want nor do i approve martinez but i will support him, i wanted Duncan Ferguson and ANYONE else would have been a disappointment to me

Could argue Pep Guardiola was one? I mean I know he managed Barca B before Barcelona, but over here that'd be like Alan Stubbs becoming the first team manager.

Fair enough. I think he would have been an absolute disaster personally. Nothing against the bloke, at all, utter legend. BUT NOT A MANAGER.

Since when does being a boss CF mean you have any of the attributes to be a decent, modern manager?

Yeah but you wanted him cause he's Big Dunc and he's awesome right?

Not because he's actually a better manager.
