get to ****, for a start i aint no "HE" and i've been a member here since the boards opened, jog on and only judge me if you know me!

I apologise for calling you a he. I take back my 'trolling' accusation.

A lot of what you're basing your thoughts on are coincidences, weird quirks and opinions with numerous factors against them.

FACT - We have only ever won a cup with a manager who has previously played for us.
FACT - The coaches know the players better than any newcomer.
FACT - David Moyes was a coach at PNE before stepping up.
FACT - Everyone has to start somewhere.

FACT 1 is simply coincidence. We have only had 23 managers in our 135 year history, a shockingly low total compared to other clubs, plus our board has always been very conservative in regards to an Everton manager.

FACT 2 Moyes took most of the coaching staff with him. I doubt there was anyone clambouring for Steve Round to be the next manager. Davey Weir showed at Sheff Utd we dodged a bullet. Alan Stubbs has no real managerial experience, the under 21s/reserves isn't 'real world' management. Coaches are coaches and managers are managers.

FACT 3 David Moyes 'stepped up' at another club before he became Everton manager and somewhat proved himself elsewhere.
FACT 4 The Everton job is far too big for a rookie manager.

I am genuinely amazed anyone is seriously against Martinez at this stage, after the start we've had. Arsenal are being lauded as fantastic, and we're only 4 points behind them, yet to play them.

Fair enough. I think he would have been an absolute disaster personally. Nothing against the bloke, at all, utter legend. BUT NOT A MANAGER.

Since when does being a boss CF mean you have any of the attributes to be a decent, modern manager?

he's enthusiastic, passionate and noone would dare take the piss or mess about!
Yeah but you wanted him cause he's Big Dunc and he's awesome right?

Not because he's actually a better manager.
I just wanna see Duncan Ferguson on the pitch or by the pitch every time I go to Goodison :hay: i've never forgiven Moyes for not offering him a new contract

Quarter of a season. Been in the job 5 months. I'd say it's enough time to have a first impression.

First impression is good so far. Some good acquisitions, good football, good results, picking barkley, respecting the club, I'm very pleased with what he's done so far. Not perfect, there's question marks over the purchases of kone and alcaraz, some of his team selections worry me a little, his persistence with osman in particular and I thought he messed up majorly in the league cup but yeah so far so good.

But ten games, things might look even better after 20 or a lot worse, we simply don't know because ten games isn't enough to form a proper opinion.

This idea that you can tell anything from such a small sample is what led to people claiming phil brown was a fecking genius.

That's largely what I think, except I think he's no Phil Brown. I think he's bought into the club ethic well, all the players who've finished top 6 for the last 7 years seem to like him, all have maintained their levels of performance and I doubt they're going to radically turn crap over the course of the season.

The rest of the league is so poor, gaps forming already, we're already 4 points clear of the team below us. We'll be fine.

Osman you can at least understand because Gibson and Pienaar have been out for almost all of the time, and there isnt an obvious candidate amongst the youth or rest of the squad who can step up as a replacement. The Kone signing was dreadful though.

I do agree however that ten games isnt enough for form a proper opinion about Martinez, but I certainly feel a lot less bad about him than I did when he was appointed.

You all know my thoughts on our manager. This is something that isn't down to him though, we seem to be conceding easy goals as of late, just hope we put a stop to it and tighten up a bit.

I probably would have gone for oviedo or the spanish lid out wide before putting osman there, myself.

But yeah shouldn't judge him too harshly until he gets a full squad.

A short blanket isn't long enough to cover your feet and your head. You should choose.

+1

Roberto has been here long enough for people to have formed a first impression.

And if that first impression is anything other than favourable then I'd be very surprised.

It might yet go pear shaped for all we know, but right now I think we are pleasantly surprised with how the first quarter(ish) of the season has gone.
