We currently have 8 attacking options. All 3 of those are naturally left sided so its square pegs in round holes.
All im saying is we shouldnt be in a position of needing to chop and change and move Richy here, switch Iwobi there just because we have 1x injury up top.
In the space of a few weeks we've had 2x CB's injured and 2x RB's.
If that happens again to us but up top we are seriously lacking quality / options up there and it may cost us vital points. You dont buy a house and not insure it.
I think we can only judge him when he's done 5 years on this:
- is our squad balanced between young and experienced players?
- is there a clear pathway to the first team squad?
- do we have players and understudies in key positions in the squad?
- is there a common playing style across all the age groups from teenagers upwards?
- is there a succession plan for Carlo Ancelotti?
Then that's more than the short term challenges hes' got of :
- new transfers
- selling people
- clearing the wages and balancing the first XI
and he's more than just a transfer lead and scout
Because they were on 4 and 5 year contractsThere are ways though, nobody is saying it is easy but it's 3 years now and the key deadwood (the ones who's wages are really strangling the club) are still all here.
We spent about 60m mate.Appearantly we have enderd up with a £7m net spend. 32m in, and 25m going out. Great job getting the deadwood out, goes to show how nice it feels when new signings are actually successful... Not had that for a while!
We still need somebody to buy themNobody is trying to force anything, but you can pay up contracts or you can reduce the actual transfer fee to a reasonable amount so the buying club just has mostly worry about the wages. If the club has a sensible meeting with the player and agent concerned and it's explained that they don't feature in the managers plans and it's best for their career to go elsewhere, then it's within the agent/players best interest to move on. Endless loans and sitting on contracts are not the answer imo. Tbh i just can't wait till we kick a load of them out at the end of the season
Same 5 have us top of the table this seasonIt defo did though. We were rubbish at the back all season, a new centre back may well have prevented that. The fact we were willing to drop £25m on a new one this summer is evidence of that really. That's ignoring the fact we probably had people playing when they weren't fully fit because there was no cover for them, and we did end up throwing a kid in and getting a couple of hidings, but nobody cared by that point so it's kind of forgotten about or put down as a positive.
There is no option to buy in Kean's loan agreement ,therefore Carlo sees a future here for himIf Kean had a future here we would not have loaned him out. We need a back up striker and now we have none. That's 25 million we spent last year accomplishing nothing for us now.
Bernard has been signed to massive wages and has now joined Bolasie, Tosun and the rest of the Walsh signings in wages too high for us to sell them.
Not great work from Brands on those two, that's my point.
As does every PL club I would imagineWe had a German scout???
To paraphrase a classic:We spent about 60m mate.
The 7m figure is just based on accounting.
We had a German scout???
All our problems will not be sorted in one transfer window and our superb start has possibly given rise to false expectations for the season. All 3 of those are naturally left sided so its square pegs in round holes.

We have spent a lot of money in terribly challenging times already and brought in great playersbut we still are lumbered with expensive players we don't want.
Next summer will see the departure of the remaining non performing players and hopefully the addition of some more players that the manager wants and needs.
It probably is better to wait and make great signings then than go ahead and make ordinary signings now... that is what has caused the problem in the first place.
I agree but dont loan out Kean/Walcott if we are not in a position financially to bring in adequate replacements!
