I'm still undecided on the whole DoF thing - whoever it is.

Brands for me on buying in / recommendations / scouting / whatever neither totally guilty or Innocent so the scottish verdict applies

Not Proven.

On getting rid of the deadwood...which might turn out to be crucial down the track - how has he done??

Its hard with shifting the deadwood though. We've got bad players on huge wages so anyone would have an issue moving them on. Liverpools Technical Director is seen as one of the best, he'd even struggle to shift the shabite we've got.

Imagine what we could have done this Transfer Window had Koeman, Walsh and Allardyce not riddled the Club with god awful players on about a combined half a mill a week.

New contract for Marcel once the window shuts

Think he is, David Ornstein said scouting and recruiting is being streamlined and that Marcel is in charge of it

The athletic
Everton’s impressive transfer window has not stopped them from working to improve their recruitment set-up, with a restructure of the department well underway.

The arrivals of James Rodriguez, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure have contributed to a 100 per cent start to the season, but the man responsible for bringing them in — director of football Marcel Brands — is determined to make the club’s transfer operation even better.

Several employees have been asked to reapply for positions and that stretches as far as the senior scout Jamie Hoyland.

Getting rid of crap players on huge wages is extremely difficult for ANYONE.

Interesting, if in you view the signing was good it was down to the manager, if bad in your view it was down to Brands. How do you know to what degree the manager at the time or Brands was involved in each signing?

You just use figures etc to suit your agenda with no actual proof.

I think we can only judge him when he's done 5 years on this:

- is our squad balanced between young and experienced players?
- is there a clear pathway to the first team squad?
- do we have players and understudies in key positions in the squad?
- is there a common playing style across all the age groups from teenagers upwards?
- is there a succession plan for Carlo Ancelotti?

Then that's more than the short term challenges hes' got of :
- new transfers
- selling people
- clearing the wages and balancing the first XI
and he's more than just a transfer lead and scout
