Manchester United

Got to love the absolute Poundland drama of falling out with Jason Wilcox and being replaced by Darren Fletcher.

Very on-brand for The Ratman. The remaining tea ladies will be getting nervous.
A clever journalist will be squirreling interviews away with former staff and putting a proper hatchet job together over man utd. To be released when they get a useful idiot to go out on a limb politically for a % of their new development being picked up by the tax payer. They'll cite the west ham london centric case, they'll push a case for HS2, and that manchester is the capital of the north and entertainment presence needs an anchor there.

He was a rubbish manager. More interested in his own preferred system than using his available players properly

System managers don't have success in the premier league. You need to be able to get the most out of your players and be adaptable. If you can't evolve and improve, you will be left behind by others who can.

Other than Antonio Conte. Arsene Wenger. Jose Mourinho. Sir Alex. Jurgen Klopp. Almost never happens.

The only philosophy a manager should have is to win.
This is basically the entire problem with United though. They think someone can roll up because they’re a “winner” and United will win again. There’s a lot of work that has to come first, work United didn’t have to do for a long time once Sir Alex did it back in the day, and they can’t seem to realize that until they do it again they’re not going to just go out and win.

With their success it’s created ego, a sense of entitlement. I like Roy Keane but his “it’s Man Utd” routine gets tedious. There is being passionate and wanting the best for your club and then there’s a spoilt mentality.

I remember we beat them 4-0 under Silva and Gary Neville was flabbergasted like “it’s Everton, Everton! “ .

The culture there fell apart after Ferguson, he was excellent at man management, sussing out what was needed for the individual player. These days a lot of managers are obsessed with philosophy and wanting to be like Pep. It started with the playing from the back with the keeper regardless if it’s a weakness.

A manager should be adaptable to the situation not stubborn. They’re not arsed a lot of them because of how substantial the pay offs are.

Adaptability is the last step. Once the platform is built you can start adapting to what you have. They have no platform. Maybe being adaptable pushes them up the table. It won’t win a title.

The hard work of setting the stage is what is needed. Amorim wanted to do that. They didn’t want him to.

Funny thing is, as time went on he started to look more and more right. They chucked masses of cash at his system which looked utterly doomed to fail, and then they bin him once he started getting some results/performances.

Now, if they bring someone in who wants wide attacking players, they’re going to have to embark on the same process in reverse because he’s jettisoned all of those players from the squad.
