Manchester United

20 games with 31 points good enough for 6th seemed like he was getting somewhere considering where they finished last year. Only have to look at spurs to see how it could have gone.

I dont think anyone really can do much better there with the current set up. So happy for an everton perspective a team above us are back in turmoil.

Lovely

Gutted. A good manager could do wonders with their cash flow and a couple of windows given the state of the league this season.

It’s actually because they’ve spent so much that it’s far more complex to course correct. Every newly hired coach inherits a 'Frankenstein squad'—a mix of Moyes' workhorses, Van Gaal's possession players, Mourinho’s giants, and Ten Hag’s Eredivisie choices. You can't just 'do wonders' with that in two windows because you're spending those windows just trying to clear the deadwood and high wages before you can even start building a cohesive identity. It's not even a puzzle; it's a renovation of a house with uniquely different foundations.

Since SAF retired in 2013, the club has cycled through 6+ permanent/interim styles (from defensive to possession to transitional). No squad can adapt to that many "identities" in just a couple of windows. And having the highest wage bill in the PL makes it nearly impossible to sell players (outside of the many that have been exiled at a loss) when they don't fit a new coach’s system.

Not an easy fix, at all - certainly not long-term anyway

If I were them I would get Carlo Ancelotti after the WC, give it to Davide in the meantime.

Someone of that stature.

They need a proper big time manager who knows how to run a club of that size.

They won’t though, they’ll get some flavour of the month who won’t last.
They absolutely do not. What’s Carlo going to do, control the ego of Diego Dalot and send Mason Mount out to be the magic man that wins matches on his own?

They’ve maintained that without three of their best players for a few weeks now too!
The league is weird this season though. You've got 3 clubs who are well ahead, then a pack of about 10 clubs who are all within a few points of one another, and then another group that are way off the back. We saw that when we found ourselves in 5th the other week. It doesn't take much to see big shifts in position.

They likely will.

Their ego will demand a heavyweight and they've just tried a flavour of the month ideologue. They'll flip to Carlo - the obvious man for that job. Pity. I'm not one for going back - especially for somebody who, like Kendall or Moyes, dumped us. But I would have loved to have him with ambitious, financially competent owners...

The hope is Fletcher gets the CL and they have to give it to him permanently...

Sure but United are actually playing quite well imo. Not perfect or anything but I said it the other day, if they kept Amorim I think they’re nailed on in Europe and maybe even fourth. Now who knows. That’s not true for other teams in the mix like us.
