I don't think Lukaku is joking about Champions League football being a personal requirement next season. That's the first hurdle to overcome before even considering if we have the money / Chelsea want to sell.

He came out and said that he wanted to sign lukaku + then stated he wouldnt be buying in jan
Yeah said it was down to chelsea whether to sell him to us + then stated that he wouldn't be buying in Jan as he wanted to save his money till summer / Chelsea wouldn't sell till summer...
Basically all pointed to deal being agreed with us (martinez knowing we'd be signing him) in summer and Martinez outlining this as a reason for not buying in january.
All seems a bit odd for martinez to come out with unless he knows something we dont -- otherwise why mention any of it?

It's a fine line for him I guess as he'd need to choose a top side that played him. I couldnt see him going to another English side or even a spanish one - the french rich clubs have some top players now which leaves Italy and Germany.

Lukaku wants champions league, which Chelsea will get. However, will Chelsea play him?
Perhaps not, so will another CL club bid for him? Perhaps, and I don't think he'd be bothered if it were an English club he was playing for in that competition so we'd have quite a level of competition for his signature.
Not being pessimistic, just realistic and unfortunately I think he's off unless we get CL and the required funds.

With a striker of quality we're boss - without, we are an excellent team playing very well, but wanting of a top top top striker.
