It's ridiculous.
Why would anyone get wound up about a statue of a slave trader being taken down?
I hope @roydo isn't getting involved.

From what I've read, people have been trying to get rid of stuff like that in Bristol for sometime. A hall or something that is named after him is currently in the process of changing it.
We should still teach this stuff in school, we can't rewrite history. But statues are meant for folk who are meant to be recognised in a good light. Slavers aren't that.
Why? It's not harmed anyone.
So they have pulled down the wrong statue ?Nah. Trying to work out who the statue was of that they lobbed in the docks. It wasnt the one that was pulled down, thats for sure, and I think its a relatively new one. So probably wasnt one of Colston.
The only one I can think of is one of John Cabot, who discovered Merica, and was just a navigator.
You do realise that the Nazis tried erasing history by burning books, wiping out history etc.
History serves a big purpose and not just the history that you personally agree with.
Whatever mate.No mate, you’re shutting down debate because what you’re talking about is indefensible.
You’ve said that it’s okay for BAME to be racist because whites, as a generalised race, have used privilege over generations to retain control.
I’m struggling to reconcile how the use of a generalised view of a race (whites have control over BAME) is any different to any other generalised view of a race (blacks are more likely to commit a crime) and how, if Racism is to be overcome that the former is any more acceptable than the latter.
Are there examples of WP? Yes. But using it as an excuse for Racist behaviour is incredibly stupid.
So they have pulled down the wrong statue ?
Lol.
Basically "kill all the black people you want, but don't dare touch our statues"
The gammon brigade are nearing their final form here.![]()
