Criticism of Islam need hold no racist undertones whatsoever.
But it inevitably will. The gentleman in the video two posts down from yours doesn't seem quite ready for a civilised discussion. You may be able to have a rational debate but it filters down to the bottom (see the increase in attacks on Eastern Europeans after the Brexit vote - the thugs felt empowered).

When I lived in Liverpool in the late 70's-early eighties, I dreaded an IRA atrocity as my accent inevitably brought attention even though I have and never will have anything but repulsion for terrorists - nationalist or loyalist. I left several pubs on nights out because of trouble brewing (not going to claim I was beaten up or anything but I know someone who was). I could 'hide' just by not opening my mouth, imagine how the vast, vast majority of ordinary, peaceful, law-abiding, equally appalled Muslims are feeling. I guarantee most of them are thinking, "Here we go again!"

Honestly, this is a time to support people (as most on here are doing), not creating an atmosphere that enables racists and thugs. It's not that hard to put yourself in someone else's position for a few seconds. Not hard at all.

I'm not saying that christians haven't been involved in disputes. I'm talking about the capacity of the religion to inspire terrorism. Christianity did not inspire the terror from NI. Soldiers weren't killed in the name of Jesus.
I seem to distinctly remember Catholics being blamed pretty hard by Protestants for it and vice-versa, there are divisions there which still remain to this day.

Can we just call it a score draw and agree that quite a few religions have lunatics attached to them, it just depends on how far those lunatics are prepared to go in the name of their religion.

Or, in our normal world, their football team.

Across planet football, supporters have been killed by rival fans, but by a million miles, the vast vast majority of a clubs supporters would not dream of doing such a thing in the name of their team.

Its kinda how I frame it.

yes it's not an easy situation, there are no easy ways out of this. How weird though would it have been if 30 years ago, everyone took the view that the IRA agenda should not be discussed because it may lead to reprisals on Irish people living in England. Yes, it's a consideration, but surely it cannot be the deciding factor.

Trust me, there was plenty of 'discussion'. Very little of it was neither sensible nor well intentioned.

perhaps not. the alternative though is a hundred times worse.
The discussions that actually had an effect, were secretive and not public. Had they been held in a public forum, they wouldn't have lasted a week. That reached a political agreement. I honestly don't see how this can happen with a huge, fractured religion.

HonestIy, I understand the urge to 'talk it out' but do you genuinely believe that won't have serious consequences for Muslims in this country?
