so a religious fanatic takes a bomb to a hospital for expectant mothers in the middle of Liverpool and is only prevented from carrying out his plan for mass murder through sheer luck, and the reaction of people on here is mainly to crack jokes and frown upon any criticism of the religion which inspired said nutcase. Islam is causing the west a huge problem. And we can't even discuss/criticise it without bringing down a torrent of abuse. If this was an atrocity carried out in the name of christianity, just imagine how much stick organised religion would get on here. Really, there would be no quarter given.
Here, nothing. The thing that really troubles me is the impact on free speech. It's only happened recently but it's everywhere. As a society we've got a big and obviously ongoing problem. We have to discuss it. And we're not. I suppose on the grounds that people don't want to encourage racism. So, as a result we are hobbled at source in our ability to discuss and think our way out of this. this has to be taken on. Criticism of Islam need hold no racist undertones whatsoever. It's a discussion we need to have about the capacity of this religion to inspire mass terror,, its inability to date to reform effectively in the way that christinatiy has , and also its suitability as an organised religion to exist in the west, in its current state given its impact on free speech.
If the whole of Islam was a "huge problem" to us, we'd be inundated with attacks on a weekly basis.
We aren't.
So why aren't the vast numbers of Muslims bad people plotting our demise? Its all one religion, according to you, with no room for separation, so surely they should all be behaving the same?
Could it be, perhaps, a very small minority? Who, therefore, are not representative of the whole, and the religion itself is not the source of the problem?

You will never change a racists mind mate

The discussions that actually had an effect, were secretive and not public. Had they been held in a public forum, they wouldn't have lasted a week. That reached a political agreement. I honestly don't see how this can happen with a huge, fractured religion.

HonestIy, I understand the urge to 'talk it out' but do you genuinely believe that won't have serious consequences for Muslims in this country?
it totally depends on what is being discussed and who is doing the discussing. Professional politicians should be able to manage a discourse, it's not beyond our capabilities. In terms of the impact on our Muslim community, it won't be easy but I'm inclined to think that burying the issue could be even more dangerous. I think it's always better to air issues in a proper environment rather than let them fester.

I don't think @Kev50 is a racist. In fact, dismissing people like him only pushes them away from rationality and being reasonable. He, like many others (including all of us), simply do not understand what turns people into terrorists. The easy conclusion to draw is that it must be the religion, and the religion only. But that's incorrect.

That's not what the fella i was referring too who's been banned was doing. Last night he was posting some frankly ridiculous things and dark views and yet describing them as facts. Like Asian gangs are targetting white girls all over and getting away with it due to cover ups. There's been historical cases of such a thing but there's no hard evidence the authorities let it happen or that it's happening noe on a large scale. He was a raving nutter and rightly got chased.

You call out extreism but it's not fair to blame Islam, same way it wouldn't be fair to blame the club or all Everton supporters if one person did something crazy. Sensibilty is the ultimate requirement when we debate these sorts of talking points.

That’s all very fair and reasonable but remember ALL kopites are gobshites

is it a tiny minority, a handful? or is it several thousand or tens of thousands? have you seen the Prevent figures? do you know how many went to actually fight for Isis?
I think it's a problem worth discussing.
How many hindu suicide bombers do we have? or jewish suicide bombers? it's not that many.

You could well be right. I'm honestly not sure what can be discussed, though.

"It's terrible what those extremists are doing"

"I know! I agree"

Then what? If it was easy, I'm sure someone would have sorted it by now. All I know is some poor sods who are blameless and want to go about their everyday life are going to suffer for something they not only abhor but have absolutely nothing to do with.

Jeez, let's not start on Israel. Please!!!!!

Using other religions doesn’t hold up though mate. Muslims are treated absolutely awfully in India which is a majority Hindu country. Israel has committed war crimes in Gaza. Both Catholics and Protestants committed acts of terror against each other during the troubles in Northern Ireland, and North Korea is a atheist state.

Does that mean every single one of these belief systems are directly responsible for these issues? And by extension does it mean everyone who subscribes to any of these belief systems is therefore a genocidal maniac, terrorist or a war criminal?

I think we can all agree it does not mean that, so surely the real problem is radicalisation, not Islam.
