Players are allowed to wear BLM armbands but aren't allowed to wear an armband expressing their love for Jesus. What a joke.
Call your boss to say you’re not coming in today, tell your significant other you need the computer with no exceptions, clear that calendar, open several beers and get some popcorn….its about to get real

The minute the various FA’s , including ours, capitulated in the UAE it showed to me that as far as they’re actually concerned it’s a gesture rather than a strongly held belief.

Yes, this is the annoying fragility at the heart of any serious criticism of the guy. I'm in favour of the rainbow armband and understand the importance, but events like the one you referenced, or the Pride logo companies carrying on doing business in countries with restrictive (& worse) LGBTQ laws just makes a mockery of their own stance. It's easy to claim certain ideals as virtues when they're never actually tested, and we continually find out that these organisations fail at the very first time of testing.

It would just be really nice if we as a society were past the need for things like this, but of course it's things like this that get us there.

The EPL would be bothered because ‘The appearance on, or incorporation in, any item of clothing, football boots or other equipment, of any religious message is prohibited under Rule A4 of the governing body’s regulations.’

my point, which appears to have sailed well over your head, is that the FA / EPL etc mandate players to wear this stuff regardless of whether it contrasts their own personal view.
As has been demonstrated with IGG simply choosing not to wear it for whatever reason, can lead to vilification which I believe is unfair.

Can’t Guehi be expressing an opinion that both a love for his religious icon and support for LBGTQ rights can co exist and have equal billing?
You have decided he’s making an opposing point because of what exactly? Your suspicion of an ulterior motive?
Maybe he does object, but wore it anyway incase abstaining affected his chance of playing for England. Is that fair and an example equality?

It hasn't gone over my head at all pal.

They mandate that the captain's of football teams in their league support the diverse views of the organization and promote positive initiatives of acceptance and support to marginalized communities.

Yes, the Prem also do ban religious material while mandating that they wear those symbols of support for their chosen causes. That's probably because the league doesn't support one particular religion over any other and that assumption or appearance could be given if they did endorse that.

They're indirectly employees of the league through employment contracts with the clubs in said league. If they don't like these policies they're free to try and negotiate a break in their contracts. It's an armband mate, could be any company asking any employee to wear a uniform and not deface it.

Ok so the question needs to be asked about why he chose to deface the armband with that message rather than wearing it on an undershirt? The location was for a reason and you can play devil's advocate all you like, it's facetious and pointless.

We all know why he's done it and why you started this thread.

I think you make a very fair point on the importance of the rainbow armband laces and I echo it . However The minute the various FA’s , including ours, capitulated in the UAE it showed to me that as far as they’re actually concerned it’s a gesture rather than a strongly held belief.

That doesn’t mean I’m not in favour of the armband, it’s just I’m fairly contemptuous toward many of those in authority .
That's FIFA for you.

I agree it was disappointing they all backed down but asking a country or FA to take that stand would have been a geopolitical thing quickly.

I accept what your saying but if you back down at the first challenge than it’s not a strongly held belief it’s a gesture , now it’s probably still a valuable gesture but it’s a gesture nevertheless.

It’s not necessarily on topic anyway mate but it’s how I felt at the time and I’ve not changed that opinion .

Considering you said you are ignoring me last week. Seems that you are the one rushing to your keyboard.

Enjoy wanking over wars

I also said I reserved the right to click on your posts for amusement which I have done and not been disappointed.

Wanking over wars? You wouldn't be making jokes about sexual preferences would you?

I'd hate for you to get caught in a self-offence spiral.

If there was ever a gesture and a reaction better placed to represent modern society then this is it.

Offenders and offended everywhere.
If it were up to me. mate... The deity that would be permitted to express love for, would be the Flying Spaghetti Monster. 🤷‍♂️
