Lescott dropped

Politics man, always politics.

The message is clear, you wont buy our players without a battle and snidy comments towards your manager in the media from Moyes.

If we just rolled over then the message is clear, harvest our players. We cant compete with City financially, thats how it is but IF sold for 22m then we've squeezed 7 million out of them more, or one Alan Hutton, and he's not even our best centre back or left back on the books.

Ace.

Expect some signings now, I'll be sad to see Lescott lining up for City but its happened before and it will happen again. Modern footie absolutely stinks but we've now got money to spend, which Moyes spends better than most managers.

I can see the point in being uncompromising with city, at least until we're within range of a deal, but can't see the point in treating the player like an outcast. If he's to stay it's harder to re-integrate him into the squad & win over disillusioned fans. If he's to go it weakens our position & rather plays into the buyer's hands.

I know mate, but he's behaved like a petchulant child and turned his back on his team mates and the club before a massive game tomorrow.

In short: he's a massive weapon.

moyes played this the way he should have. put the ball in lescott's court. either he accepts the refusal of his transfer request like a man, or whine until he gets the transfer anyway. both are legitimate options.

he made his choice, we'll sell for 18 with incentive pay up to 21 (cup wins etc...)

not the end of the world, really. at the least, this was a good way to vet one of our better players to check their character.

should be fun watching yobo and neville team up in the center!

I don't think it'll be 18. I'd say it'd start at 20 atleast.

i think moyes is absolutely doing the right thing.

think about his statement, he made no mention of city whatsoever!!!!

all he said was lescott's attitude is poor, you have to admit its entertaining, what better way to put hughes in his place than by not even acknowledging his role in this debacle.

instead of saying "he's a bad egg so we're selling him" all he's saying is "funny, one of our players is acting up, i should drop him". whoever prepares moyes' press statements is a genius imo, selectively omitting any mention of City from the press release really focuses things back on us. waita take back the power.

also i should note i think the press statement shows confidence... moyes wouldn't have lescott sit in the stands watching us if he thought it would only show the player how badly he'd be missed...instead i think he wants to rub his nose in the victory.

he's also reassuring us fans, showing us that regardless of whether or not lescott goes, we're still everton and we'll be fine. i've gotta say its a stroke of brilliance from moyes

Agree with that mate i saw the press conference on SSN and he seems to say that Man City have been in contact with Lescott, without Evertons knowledge.

Has he? All I "know" is what's in the media. But whatever's gone on, isn't it Moyes job to manage it? I thought man-management was his forte, but if he's struggling in this instance perhaps digging his heels in may not be the best tactic. We're now in the situation where we have the player but don't feel we can play him & Manchester City have the money but can't buy the player from us. No winners there, at the moment.

Its quite simple, for the good of our club he has to go.

All those bringing up his disfigurement should be ashamed of themselves.
He's also black....But would you bring that up? NO you would not. Bringing up his disfigurement is on a par with racism. Neither should be tolerated.

Sounds like hes manageing the situation to me, do one City:

Wednesday’s development nudges the England centre-half closer to the outstretched arms of Manchester City.
Moyes, who has dropped Lescott from the squad to face Sigma Olomuc in a Europa League qualifier at Goodison on Thursday night, insists City must reach his evaluation for the player, believed to be more than £25 million. Everton bought Lescott for £5 million in 2006 and Wolves are due a 15-per-cent cut of any fee.

Having already rejected two City bids of £15 million and £18 million, Moyes argues that there is currently a premium on English centre-halves. "We have not had a significant enough offer,’’ said Moyes. "I have never wanted to sell the player but (Cristiano) Ronaldo was sold by Manchester United - there will always be a price for a player, but Manchester City have not come close to meeting ours for Joleon Lescott.

"John Terry and Rio Ferdinand are first choice for England. People were talking about £40-50 million for Terry (and Ferdinand cost £30 million in 2002). After that there is a group of Phil Jagielka, Joleon Lescott with Matthew Upson and with all due respect to Upson he is 30. After that there is another group and you ask where do England go for their next centre-backs? Because of the shortage the prices of centre-backs have risen dramatically.’’

Sources at Eastlands have detected a thaw in on-going negotiations with Everton, although Moyes insists "it was not inevitable that Lescott will leave’’. Even if Moyes looks set to lose the player, the manager’s strong stance has been widely admired within football.

The modern player is so powerful, and the riches on offer at Eastlands so dazzling, that money talks and talent tends to walk in football.

"People are talking about the money he will get at City but he shouldn't have received any financial offer because he is an Everton player,’’ stressed Moyes.

"This is someone who only agreed a new four-year contract this time last year. I think there maybe are other reasons apart from sporting for him wanting to go. At the end of your career you want medals and maybe Joleon feels that Manchester City are the best place for him to achieve that - but you never know.’’

Moyes decided to act in the wake of Saturday’s 6-1 humiliation by Arsenal, a result and performance that he said "damaged my reputation’’, although few managers are more highly regarded. Lescott appeared distracted, and clearly all the headlines and uncertainty affected Moyes’ team. "I couldn't let it drift,’’ added Moyes.

"Joleon is a very good boy behind it all and the people who have been advising him are giving him poor information and have turned a good lad into something else. The talks he has had with people have obviously upset him and he has lost his direction but that can be brought back. He has a World Cup to aim for at the end of the season.

"I feel Joleon has been got to and he is letting himself down with his own behaviour. Normally he is a very good trainer and very focused but he doesn't seem to be that at this present time. I can see by the reaction of his team-mates that they are disappointed in him as well.

"His attitude has been poor. It doesn’t mean the end of his Everton career. He might be in the first-team squad for this weekend (against Burnley) if I see there is a change in his attitude. It doesn't mean his valuation to us has dropped.

"Maybe the Premier League needs to step in and ask questions about what has been going on. There should be some honour and integrity between clubs and if that goes it becomes a free-for-all.

"There are correct ways to do things. There is a price on every player, we all know how it works, but if there is a fundamental breakdown in the relationship between chairman and chairman, chief exec and chief exec, or manager and manager then that is not good for the running of our game. The Premier League should bring in rules and regulations to make sure this cannot be done.’’

Moyes is close to bringing in a "front-line’’ centre-half, and has been linked with Steven Taylor, Ryan Shawcross and Michael Turner. "I will have another centre-half soon, at least one, and Joleon will have a decision to make. Until his attitude changes he won't be included.’’ Either Phil Neville or Jack Rodwell will partner Joseph Yobo at centre-back against Sigma.

Jesus wept.

I'm getting a laugh out of those who've said that Moyes hasn't handled this properly.

"Hasn't handled this properly?" You're on crack if you think Moyes has any blame in this mess.

Moyes said he wasn't selling our best players. End of. Yet City kept on and on with it both with us and in the press. That's doesn't include what they've probably done behind the scenes with Joleon and/or his agent.

Even the press is now starting to say that "Everton must sell.

You can blame Joleon Lescott.
You can blame Manchester City.
You can blame the press.

But you can't blame David Moyes in this.
