Leighton Baines

Most of us probably didn't expect Baines to be as awesome as he has become when we brought him in from Wigan to be fair....I think Seamus is going to be top, top drawer.

Your right that nobody could have anticipated how successful a signing baines would be but when we bought him he was 21 and had already made well over 100 appearances for wigan. In other words we knew his strengths just not their extent, and I'm pretty sure the primary of these was his crossing ability...Coleman is now 24 and is a very good player with his own strengths and they will improve but I do not foresee him creating the sheer volume of opportunities that baines creates with his style of play. In my opinion coleman is more mercurial than functional, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong :)

Leighton Baines is reported to be ready to sign a new deal at Everton if the Blues reject Manchester United’s next bid for his services.

The Mirror has claimed that United are ready to put together a final “take it or leave it” bid for the England left back of around £12m, a bid which will almost certainly be rejected by the Blues.,

so....they make an initial bid of 12mil, thats rejected. theyre going to come back in with a modified bid of...12mil? and thats the take it or leave it level? the same price that was already rejected?

I got all excited when I read he played in preseason on ESPN, and then I came and read this thread in my first visit for a few weeks.

Depressed.

Hi y'all. Can't wait for our real pre season to start.

Okay, so what do you suggest we do for a striker then.

Bear in mind, a striker of the AGE and calibre you are talking about would cost £12m plus.

We bought Kone for the same reason Utd might buy Baines - because they are the best options for each club's respective aims at this time, regardless of age and 'sell on value'.

Personally I don't give a **** about sell-on value. I abhor the club's 'player trading policy as it is. Not receiving any money back for Kone might force the terrible board we have to invest some money into the club for new players.

I don't know I am not the manager but for me this Kone deal did not make much business sense for this club. You can't give a damn about sell-on value because (a) this club survive in the past decade due to our policy of buying younger players and selling them when their stocks are high (b) this club is owned by Billy (and he won't leave you know that) who has about 200 west end tickets to invest into the club.

people keep repeating this thing about how we buy young players then sell when their stocks are high. I don't understand where that is coming from. some teams have that as a policy but how often has it happened at Everton? We seem to sell when we have established the player doesn't fit in and very occasionally when the player demands to go. Baines fits in, hasn't demanded to go. Seems likely to stay. Kone? Seems fairly standard Everton type of signing. possibly undervalued and could do a job for us so worth a punt at 5 million

Everton have not offered Baines anything. They have not even spoken to the player about a new contract

Thank you very much indeed.....

Everton Football Club is for sale
Everton Football Club says no one intrested in buying football clubs
Everton Football Club we are not selling Baines.
Everton Football Club getting away with it for years.

Where has DAVIDMOYES said we're selling Baines?

Maybe that's why the chairman and CEO were at the game yesterday?

do you mean to offer him a new contract?

Or to tell him to get on a flight sharpish and speak to united?

Just feel that the longer this drags on with no word from the club, the more likely it is hes being sold.

No doubt EFC will make it out to be Baines fault and he demanded a transfer etc. Its always the same old story.

Seems strange to me the pair would turn up for that friendly. There had to be more to it than simply watching a game.

Whatever happens, we need it to happen soon so we can plan with Baines in mind or have the cash to buy and bed new players in.
