Last Film You Watched

As we've already discussed, financial gain is no way to measure the quality of a film. Oh I'm sure it is all that matters to the good people at Disney who are no doubt very happy. However to those of us who love good films, the current marvel circus has done no favours to the comic film industry. While DC have made some almighty blunders I'm glad they've not as yet decided to pander to the bias critics and fanboys who they will never please anyway.

Oh BTW Black Panther being 4th of all time in the US and 10th worldwide? It's enough to make me weep for humanity that people can be so stupid as to make such a bang average film so successful. Whatever, I guess the sheep have spoken.

:coffee:

Let me bring you in on a secret here - Movies are actually commodities, products to be bought and sold on a market. If movies didn't make money...guess what? No more movies! Can you equate a good film to be a popular one? Of course you can, you personally can't see the appeal but bums on seats don't lie.

Everyone wants there to be a superb DC universe but they have really screwed it up massively.

Oh McBain, I can't lie mate. I'm disappointed, very disappointed. Your article is impossible to take seriously if you actually read comics. The author of that laughable nonsense claims that Superman was killed and replaced by an older version from a "parallel universe" which is hilariously untrue and common knowledge to anyone who read the story.

Also, the author of that guff tries to falsely claim is that interest in films is responsible for the increase in comic sales. What he dithers around (because he admits but them pretends not to) is the evolution of variant covers. The comic book audience has shrunk dramatically but is propt up by people buying several copys of the same title for the diffrent cover art.

Using Mrs Marvel as measuring becon of success?! Lol, I'm sorry, I just can't!lol

So let's get to the second part of your post. Yes of course I understand that all movies have to make money. What you obviously don't get is that the market bubble can be a fickle thing. Yes they are our putting bums on the seats now but when that bubble bursts they will be hit VERY hard and struggle to recover for many years because the mouse does not lightly except failure. Meanwhile DC films will continue to draw okish, to what will become maga successful money after the bursts.

You say "everyone" wants a successful DCEU is patiently untrue. The bias has been right there from the get-go and couldn't be more obvious. The reporting on DC to Marvel films is about as level and fair minded as the Red Liverpool FC echo when reporting on the derby! Between the marvel fanboys, the Disney arse lickers, the bought and sold critics and the generally stupid, DC never stood a chance!

And speaking of not standing a chance, I can't see us not getting hammered tomorrow mate. :(

Lots of articles and they're all wrong? Your citing the emergence of Variant Covers as opposed to a mainstream worldwide cinematic universe for the uptick in comic sales??

I just don't think your old enough to remember a time when making films like these wasn't possible. Point 2 - the market can be a very fickle thing? The mouse doesn't tolerate failure? Why should it? Its a business. The Dark Knight made a massive amount of money in 2008. Batman has been incredibly profitable down the years. Why would this suddenly dry up? You got Batman movies there that have been loved, critiqued as being revolutionary for the genre, and then you get this version which stinks out the cinema and low and behold doesn't make any money.

I just think you and @Prevenger17 need to realise that no matter what you think as a whole, Marvel make quality. You might not think Black Panther is anything special like @Bryan , but you're entitled to your opinion and you don't work in the medium so can't see how good the design of the film is. Marvel stuff is impeccably Cast, produced, directed with no fuss. No behind the scenes turmoil and half baked ideas. They're like Man City to DC's West Brom (or us) at the minute, but it can change. Aquaman could be amazing - turn the whole thing around. I'll go see it at the movies, I love these films. Hating on DC is a very niche market. How could you hate Batman and Wonder Woman? If you do them badly, that's how.

What would you rate Ragnarok + Black Panther out of 10?

I'd probably give them both a 7. I thoroughly enjoyed both. I didn't go in expecting anything other than a big screen experience and they deliver every time.

I have enjoyed many of them, particularly Ant Man and Captain America's outings. "Pushing boundaries" was just a stretch imo

Thor Ragnarok was a steaming pile of faeces and I won't be told otherwise.

Did you like 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople?' Its a particular humour - I think Waititi is superb. Marvel made a decision pretty early to back their Directors and produce genre films with Superheroes on the cover. I know you won't see this but in this industry that is actually genius. Its why they are doing so well. The cookie cutter factory is in fact giving mainstream production independent oversight. If this alone isn't pushing boundaries then I don't know what is.

This Gwladys lad is the key to their success, and why DC have been stuck in producer-meddling hell.
